Building milestone number 0 at Hoan Kiem Lake

Recently, the Hanoi Party Committee Office announced the decision to build "milestone number 0" at Hoan Kiem Lake (Hoan Kiem district, Hanoi), and at the same time required the project to have high aesthetics and uniqueness, suitable for the capital of a thousand years of culture.

"This will be a highlight not only of the capital but also of the whole country, a destination attracting domestic and international tourists," Secretary Vuong Dinh Hue shared.

It is known that since mid-2018, the Department of Surveying, Mapping and Geographic Information of Vietnam (Ministry of Natural Resources and Environment) affirmed the necessity of building a "milestone number 0" in Hanoi. The Department said that many countries have also built kilometer number 0 at famous locations, bringing good effects in promoting the country's image and developing tourism.

Agreeing on the proposed location for "milestone number 0" at the intersection of Hang Khay and Dinh Tien Hoang, the Department said that in terms of form, the milestone should be built standing instead of lying down.

"Milestone 0" is expected to be a destination that attracts domestic and international tourists.

In order to enhance the effectiveness of walking space in the Hoan Kiem Lake area and surrounding areas, Mr. Vuong Dinh Hue also requested to study a number of other projects, such as: renovating and embellishing landmark works around the lake; renovating the Le King Temple area in connection with the Nhan Dan Newspaper editorial office space and the surrounding landscape.

In addition, the Hanoi Secretary proposed to soon unify the planning and architecture of the underground station C9 and the space and landscape around the station; implement the project of cultural, service, commercial and tourism space in the area of ​​131 stone arches of the southern approach road to Long Bien bridge and the project of preserving Long Bien bridge in the direction of turning it into a pedestrian bridge.
