The youthfulness and boldness of young people, as well as the desire to express themselves, have gradually changed wedding trends. From weddings with hundreds of tables and thousands of guests, weddings now tend to become more minimalist, focusing on emotions, connections and being more personal.
Weddings of young couples are increasingly becoming more personal.
Travellive had a conversation with Ms. Huyen Trang - Founder of Thuyen Giay Wedding & Event Planner.
PV: Hello Huyen Trang. In your opinion, what are the differences in factors such as time, method, cost, needs and preferences between traditional and modern weddings?
Founder Huyen Trang: Traditional weddings are often seen as a way to fulfill family obligations. The wedding takes place under the witness of both families and clans. This is also an opportunity to meet and chat with many relationships, not only of the bride and groom but also of both parents.
Perhaps that is why traditional weddings have more of the characteristics of a wedding announcement party, a dinner party for everyone to enjoy together. Weddings with hundreds of tables of food and thousands of guests seem to be a barrier that prevents the bride and groom from being close and sharing with everyone completely. Therefore, many young couples today often hold their wedding at another location, and then hold a traditional wedding ceremony in their hometown.
Intimate weddings help the host and guests get closer to each other in meaningful moments.
For modern wedding styles that tend to be intimate, guests are truly congratulated and share the joy with the host of the party. The bride and groom can freely express their feelings and emotions, and bond more with their guests through fun activities and games. The parties, therefore, can last up to 4-5 hours or until the next day, compared to traditional weddings that usually last only 2-3 hours. In modern weddings, couples have the opportunity to express their individuality more.
PV: What wedding style are young people aiming for?
Founder Huyen Trang: As I see it, young brides and grooms are paying great attention to the following 3 wedding styles.
Firstly, outdoor weddings, especially destination weddings, are popular. Especially after the Covid-19 pandemic, the number of couples wanting to hold destination weddings has skyrocketed. There are many beautiful destinations in Vietnam that are especially suitable for this type. The main people who choose this style are young people living and studying abroad, who want to hold a wedding in Vietnam, or recently, there are also couples from Australia or India who come to Thuyen Giay Wedding & Event Planner.
Destination Wedding is a wedding style chosen by many people.
Intimate weddings are also of interest to many couples. This wedding style also has characteristics such as: minimal ceremony, small number of guests - mainly close guests of the bride and groom, easily creating a close atmosphere and strong emotions in the wedding ceremony. Couples who are interested in being close and sharing meaningful moments with close people often choose this style for their wedding.
Intimate weddings focus on the host's emotions and the bond with guests.
The wedding style with traditional Vietnamese costumes is currently also a trend with young couples who love nostalgia, tradition or traditional Vietnamese family ceremonies. The most popular traditional costumes are traditional ao dai, Nhat Binh shirt, Tac shirt, five-panel shirt... From the perspective of an expert in the wedding field, I see the "throne" of this wedding style that enhances traditional cultural values, standing out more than Western wedding styles.
Traditional Vietnamese weddings are also chosen by many young couples.
PV: With those styles, what will the wedding venue, wedding ceremony, wedding dress, wedding photos, and wedding decoration be like?
Founder Huyen Trang:First of all, the wedding ceremony of the 3 wedding styles above is often minimalist, focusing on the connection between the host and close guests. The most typical thing is that all elements related to the wedding activities revolve around personal identity (very personalized) as well as promoting the privacy of the bride and groom.
With the popular wedding styles, personal identity is always expressed in every element related to wedding activities.
The venues for the above styles are usually outdoors. There are many locations in Vietnam suitable for organizing such as Ninh Binh, Ha Long Bay, Hoi An ancient town, Hue ancient capital, Sa Pa city... Or weddings on yachts, on the beach, grasslands, from poetic homestays to luxury resorts, on cliffs or even in mountain ravines...
Regarding wedding photography style, couples often want to preserve natural, liberal shots, capturing many natural emotional moments of the bride and groom. The wedding costumes chosen often aim to clearly express the identity and personality of the bride and groom. The decoration style also reflects the personality of the party host. The style is diverse, unique and suitable for the venue.
PV: Will the trend of travel weddings continue to be popular and preferred in the future?
Founder Huyen Trang:Destination wedding is a unique form of wedding organization, blending the unique cultural features that the bride and groom want to express with the beauty of the local landscape. This trend will continue to be popular in the coming time and in the future.
Destination Wedding will be the wedding trend in the near future.
The characteristic of a travel wedding is the open space, bringing unique experiences to both the couple and the guests, "enjoying" the entire natural beauty of the locality. For destination weddings, the weather is also an important factor affecting the wedding. Therefore, wedding planners need to have a backup plan in case of bad weather.
