Authorities in Da Lat City (Lam Dong province) have taken strict action against "tourist touts" who threaten tour guides and lure tourists to shopping destinations.

Earlier, on July 17th, tour guide Duy Anh (from Khanh Hoa) was leading a group of tourists to Da Lat city. At Robin Hill, several unidentified individuals appeared and confronted the tour guide with challenging and threatening remarks.

Speaking to reporters, Mr. Duy Anh said that these strangers want to lure tourists to certain shops in Da Lat that they have pre-arranged, in order to earn commissions from tourists' purchases. Their tactic is to provoke, defame, and pressure tour guides into giving in and taking tourists to the shops. This situation has been going on for a long time in Da Lat, to the point of becoming a "nightmare" for tour guides and drivers, especially new ones who are constantly worried about being harassed by these individuals.

"I have reported this to the local authorities and relevant agencies in Da Lat to address and eliminate this situation and bring fairness to tour guides. Many tour guides do not want to be implicated and want to ensure the safety of tourists, so they do not speak up. However, after this incident, I hope that tour guides nationwide will speak up and fight to bring peace and integrity to the tourism industry," Mr. Duy Anh shared.

On the morning of July 18th, the inter-agency task force 389 of Da Lat City assigned the Economic Police Team of Da Lat City Police to work with a shop in Ward 8, Da Lat City. There, the owner admitted to hiring people to solicit tourists. During the inspection, authorities discovered some goods in the shop whose origin could not be verified. Therefore, further investigation will be conducted, and recommendations will be made to the competent authorities for appropriate penalties.

A representative from the Economic Department of the Da Lat City People's Committee stated that "tourist touts" are complex individuals often hired by shops to lure tourists into shopping. Therefore, it is necessary to deal with these shops with sufficiently deterrent penalties to address this problem at its root. "We are determined to completely eradicate this situation, maintaining the image of Da Lat people as always gentle, elegant, and hospitable," the representative from the Economic Department of the Da Lat City People's Committee said.
