Li ZiChao and his father, Li Zing (from China), were the only two foreigners ever infected with Covid-19 in Vietnam. After nearly a month of isolation and treatment at Cho Ray Hospital in Ho Chi Minh City, both father and son were discharged on February 12, 2020, both testing positive for Covid-19.
In particular, before returning to his country, Li ZiChao wrote a letter on behalf of his father to the doctors at Cho Ray Hospital to express their gratitude.
"[...] We are truly sorry that our visit has caused you any inconvenience. We sincerely apologize! [...] We will remember from the bottom of our hearts the professionalism and kindness of the doctors in examining and treating us - especially the doctor who gave my father an extra 10 days of medication after he was discharged from the hospital. That kind act of care and concern deeply moved us."
[...]In a strange city, we couldn't find suitable fruits, food, or other gifts to give back to the kind doctors and nurses who cared for us. We felt ashamed and guilty towards all the doctors and nurses because we considered them friends, people to whom we deserved a proper repayment. Although we leave here with regret, we will deeply remember your kindness [...]- Excerpt from a letter written in English by Li ZiChao.
A Chinese father and son on the day of their discharge from the hospital.
"In the global fight against the Covid-19 pandemic, countless healthcare workers have been infected, and some have even lost their lives for the health of the people. Li ZiChao's letter is like a tribute to those who have passed away, and a source of encouragement for all healthcare workers (without borders) to continue standing together, believing in the ultimate victory and that the Covid-19 pandemic will soon pass," shared Dr. Le Quoc Hung, Head of the Department of Tropical Diseases, Cho Ray Hospital, Ho Chi Minh City.
