Accordingly, airline tickets from provinces and cities to Ho Chi Minh City before February 18th have sold out on many routes, or only a very limited number remain.
For the Hanoi - Ho Chi Minh City route, only a few tickets remain on Bamboo Airways' early morning flight on February 17th. Tickets for the remaining days are sold out in economy class, leaving only business class tickets available on Vietnam Airlines at around 10 million VND per one-way ticket.
Passengers flying from Hai Phong to Ho Chi Minh City currently have no other options until February 20th. The Vinh - Ho Chi Minh City route only has tickets available on Vietjet Air's morning flight on February 16th, priced at 1.6 million VND/one-way. Tickets for other dates are completely sold out.
Many flights from provinces and cities to Ho Chi Minh City after Tet have sold out, with only expensive business class tickets available, costing up to 10 million VND per ticket.
The Thanh Hoa - Vinh route also saw a similar situation. The Da Nang/Tuy Hoa/Quy Nhon - Ho Chi Minh City route even had completely sold-out tickets until February 20th. Even those with money couldn't buy tickets, not even business class ones.
Due to the high cost of airfare, many people have had to change their plans to return to Ho Chi Minh City. Nam Giang (29 years old) said he asked his company for permission to work remotely to save on travel expenses.
"The airfare would be 3-4 times cheaper if I flew to Ho Chi Minh City 2-3 days later than my scheduled work date. Changing my itinerary would also help me avoid the crowds at Noi Bai and Tan Son Nhat airports," Giang shared.
According to surveys, after February 20th, domestic airfares will cool down and gradually return to normal levels. Specifically, fares for the Hanoi/Hai Phong/Vinh/Thanh Hoa/Da Nang - Ho Chi Minh City route will be around 2-3 million VND/one-way. After that, fares are expected to decrease by approximately 1 million VND further after February 28th.
Meanwhile, flights from Hanoi to Da Lat and Phu Quoc are currently sold out and show no signs of slowing down until February 20th.
On February 14th – the last day of the Lunar New Year holiday before returning to work – Noi Bai Airport recorded approximately 550 flights with nearly 90,000 passengers (both international and domestic).
Noi Bai Airport will continue to implement Level 1 enhanced security measures from February 6th until February 16th.
During the 7-day Lunar New Year holiday of the Year of the Dragon, it is estimated that Noi Bai Airport served approximately 3,500 flights with over 550,000 passengers arriving and departing safely.
