The Creative Workshop and Project Market are two side activities of HANIFF 2018, but they play an extremely important role in supporting and discovering young talents, and at the same time contribute significantly to making the image and brand of the Hanoi International Film Festival more professional and widely known.
Unlike previous film festivals, the HANIFF 2018 Film Project Market and Creative Workshop included, for the first time, participants from China, the Philippines, and Myanmar. The organizers also aimed to shift the model from purely classroom-based workshops within the Creative Workshop into small discussion sessions and dialogues where participants could listen to insights and advice from experts on working in the film industry.

In the Filmmaking Camp category, the organizing committee awarded prizes to outstanding students from both the acting and directing & screenwriting classes. The Outstanding Student Award for the acting class went to Vu Kim Anh and Cong Van Duong, whose acting abilities were highly praised by experts throughout the camp. The Outstanding Student Award for the directing & screenwriting class was given to young Filipino director Crisanto Calvento.

Student Vu Kim Anh shared: “When the organizers announced my name as one of the two outstanding students in the acting class at the HANIFF 2018 Creative Camp, I felt very happy and joyful. I understand that this will be a lucky start to my film career. I told myself that I need to try harder and gain more experience. This is the first time an acting class has been organized within the framework of HANIFF, and I hope that in future film festivals, acting classes will continue to be held so that young actors like us can be given the opportunity to test our skills and gain experience.”

Alongside the Film Workshop activities, the Organizing Committee also announced the outstanding film projects from the Project Market. The Project Market is a platform for introducing and selecting independent film projects that are in the script development or production stages by young filmmakers. This year, with the participation of 5 film projects from young directors from Vietnam and abroad, including Singapore, South Korea, Iran, and India, the judges had a very serious and effective working session. After four days of work, the Organizing Committee awarded opportunities to the two best projects: “Good morning, and good night!” by young Vietnamese director Chung Chi Cong, and “John Denver Trending” by young Filipino director Arden Rod Contez.
