8th Francophone Film Festival

As scheduled, the 2015 Francophone Film Festival was held in Hanoi, Ho Chi Minh City, Hue, and Vinh during the last days of March.

The festival aims to showcase the cultural diversity of the Francophone Community. This year's program includes 9 films (feature films and documentaries) from 7 countries: Bulgaria, France, Haiti, Morocco, Switzerland, Tunisia, and Vietnam. The foreign films have Vietnamese subtitles, and the Vietnamese films have French subtitles.

The festival will open in Hue (French Cultural Center – 1 Le Hong Phong Street) from March 21st and run until March 31st. Admission is free.

Also with free admission is the program at Vinh University, Nghe An - taking place from March 24th to March 31st. At the same time, from March 24th to March 31st, audiences in Hanoi can watch the film at the French Cultural Center (24 Trang Tien, Hanoi), with tickets priced at 20,000 VND.

The film festival in Ho Chi Minh City will take place from March 23rd to April 2nd at the Institute for Cultural Exchange with France (31 Thai Van Lung, Hanoi), with tickets priced at 30,000 VND; however, students of the institute are allowed free admission.

At this festival, Vietnam presented three films of high artistic value. The film "Children of the Village" by director Nguyen Duc Viet received the Silver Kite Award, the Film Critics' Award, Best Supporting Actor, and Best Screenplay. "Flapping Wings in the Air" - the debut film of director Nguyen Hoang Diep - won the Special Jury Prize at the Three Continents Film Festival (Nantes, France), Best Director at the Bratislava International Film Festival, the Special Jury Prize at the Hanoi International Film Festival, and Best Film from the Federation of European and Mediterranean Film Critics.

"The Last Journey of Ms. Phung," directed by Nguyen Thi Tham, has participated in several international film festivals, won a Special Mention at the Chopshots Documentary Film Festival (Indonesia), and was screened at the 6th European-Vietnamese Documentary Film Festival in Hanoi and Ho Chi Minh City. The film consistently sold out screenings upon its release.

In addition, six other foreign films were screened on this occasion: The Foreigner (Bulgaria), Challat in Tunis (Tunisia), Toussaint Louverture, The Battle for Survival (France), Goodbye Carmen (Morocco, Belgium, UAE), and Vitus, the Child Prodigy (Switzerland)...
