On March 18, the Cambodian Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation issued a diplomatic note outlining six points regarding border crossings with Vietnam. Accordingly, to prevent the spread of COVID-19, citizens of both countries will temporarily be prohibited from entering each other's territories by land, sea, and air starting March 20. Citizens holding diplomatic and official passports will be allowed to travel as normal. Both countries have also coordinated efforts to ensure uninterrupted cross-border freight transport.

However, as of now, the Covid-19 pandemic control situation in Vietnam and Cambodia has shown many positive signs. On June 22nd, the Cambodian Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation announced the repeal of the aforementioned diplomatic note and the lifting of the border ban. From now on, all cross-border activities between the two countries will return to normal.
However, due to the ongoing and complex Covid-19 pandemic worldwide, people are advised to exercise caution before entering or leaving the country and to cooperate fully with Covid-19 testing and screening when requested. If traveling to Cambodia, tourists will be required to deposit $3,000 USD as a contingency fund for Covid-19 treatment. This amount will be refunded at the end of the trip.

Previously, on May 20th, Cambodia also lifted its entry ban for citizens from Italy, Iran, Germany, Spain, France, and the United States. The government requires visitors to present a certificate confirming they are COVID-19 free within 72 hours of entry and to demonstrate health insurance coverage of $50,000 USD for the duration of their stay in Cambodia. Visitors will also be required to quarantine for 14 days upon arrival at a government-designated facility and undergo testing for the virus.
