The Han River Bridge, also known as the Nguyen Van Troi Bridge, is the first and oldest bridge in Da Nang to cross the Han River. It was built by the Americans in the 1960s and inaugurated in 1965.
In 2013, Da Nang City inaugurated the Tran Thi Ly cable-stayed bridge. The old Nguyen Van Troi bridge, with 14 steel spans, a total length of over 513 m, and a width of 10.5 m, was retained for use as a pedestrian bridge.
At the end of 2023, the Da Nang authorities agreed on a pilot plan to organize nighttime tourism services on Nguyen Van Troi Bridge and the park on the east bank, Tran Hung Dao and Chuong Duong streets.

This project includes the installation of artistic lighting on the Han River Bridge, featuring modern LED lights that create a dazzling and magical nighttime spectacle. Furthermore, activities on the bridge have been significantly enhanced, allowing visitors to enjoy delicious Da Nang specialties and sip coffee in a romantic setting along the Han River.
Street art performances, music shows, and DJ sets will be regularly organized to attract tourists. A playground with safe and educational games for children will be set up. Seating and swings will be arranged along the riverbank for visitors to relax and enjoy the scenery.
This area will host cultural and artistic activities, community events, five tourism service stalls, and a children's playground. The landscape will be beautified, with the addition of miniature gardens, railings, and lighting. The Son Tra district authorities have installed numerous cameras on the bridge to monitor nighttime activities. The total budget for the first phase of renovations (from Q1 2024 to the end of 2028) is 3.5 billion VND.

The District People's Committee has renovated many areas, such as clearing weeds and waste; planting new trees and replacing some dead or broken ones. The authorities have also installed many waste sorting bins, decorated some small landscapes, and built protective railings in areas adjacent to the riverbank…
Although not yet officially opened, the bridge has already attracted locals and tourists for recreation and sports activities. The Nguyen Van Troi pedestrian bridge is seen from the Tran Thi Ly bridge. From this pedestrian bridge, people and tourists can admire the Dragon Bridge and the Han River Bridge at night, and enjoy the fireworks displays that will last for 5 weeks in June and July. This is the first pedestrian bridge in Da Nang City.
