Lung Cung is renowned as a stunning route with incredibly diverse natural scenery. In recent years, it has become an ideal destination for trekking enthusiasts.

Lung Cung Peak, at 2,913 meters, is located in Nam Co commune, Mu Cang Chai district, Yen Bai province. It ranks 11th among the 15 highest peaks in Vietnam. In recent years, Lung Cung has attracted a large number of mountaineering and trekking enthusiasts due to its beautiful mountainous terrain, short climbing routes, and moderate difficulty. It is also considered an ideal location for cloud watching, and offers stunning 360-degree unobstructed views of both sunrise and sunset.

“The beauty of this place remains largely unspoiled, with diverse plant and herb species stretching from the foot to the summit of the mountain. Along with that, the incredibly fresh air is the biggest inspiration that brought me to Lung Cung,” shared Nguyen Ngoc Nhat (24 years old, Hanoi) after completing his trekking journey to conquer the “green meadow high above.”

The journey to conquer an altitude of 2,913 m.

To reach Lung Cung, visitors can start from Nam Co village, Lung Cung village, or Tu San village. Starting from Tu Le, Ngoc Nhat traversed 15 km of rugged, rocky terrain with muddy sections to reach Tu San village. He chose Tu San village because the distance from the starting point to the summit wasn't too long, making it suitable for relieving stress and appreciating nature after a long period of work pressure. After passing through Tu San village, he officially began his journey to conquer Lung Cung peak.

"Lung Cung isn't an overly challenging mountain to conquer; three-quarters of the journey is through cool, old-growth forests with moderate slopes. This route is suitable for beginners who want to try hiking or trekking, or those looking for a way to relieve stress and reconnect with nature without expending too much energy," Ngọc Nhất explained.

Boasting an impressive altitude, Lung Cung is an ideal spot for cloud watching, sunrise and sunset viewing with unobstructed 360-degree panoramic views. After emerging from the forest, the mountaintop is a vast, open hillside with very strong winds. “My most memorable experience on the trip was reaching the summit; the temperature wasn’t too low, but the wind was incredibly strong. The whole group had to huddle together to ward off the cold, quickly snapping a few photos for souvenirs before rushing back to the campsite,” Ngoc Nhat shared.

When is the best time to trek to Lung Cung?

In spring, plum and peach blossoms bloom profusely throughout the mountains and forests, just like in other regions of Northwest Vietnam. The Lung Cung trekking route is filled with the vibrant colors of flowers, combined with the vast blue sky and warm spring sunshine, creating a poetic and romantic scene. Therefore, March and early April is the ideal time to go to Lung Cung to chase the clouds.

  • Always carry as much water as possible.
  • Don't forget to bring medicine for stomach aches, headaches, and a personal first-aid kit. Nobody wants to get a stomach ache or injury at an altitude of nearly 3,000 meters, so always be prepared for potential risks.
  • Pay attention to the weather; avoid climbing on rainy or stormy days, as weather will determine 50% of the success of your trekking trip.
