A picture of brilliant yellow nature
Ban Phung Commune is located about 30 km from the center of Hoang Su Phi District, Ha Giang Province. Perhaps, it is not by chance that this place is named Ban Phung. "Phung" in Chinese means meeting, so when coming here, visitors seem to visit the meeting place of nature, the majestic mountain and forest landscape with breathtakingly beautiful terraced fields.
Ban Phung commune is located about 30 km from the center of Hoang Su Phi district, Ha Giang province.
Ban Phung is a land with endless terraced fields, interwoven with poetic and romantic yellow and green colors.
Having the opportunity to visit Ban Phung during the golden rice season, Mr. Hoang Minh Duc (29 years old, Da Lat) could not help but be amazed and admired by the charming scenery here: "When I came to Ban Phung, I had a special impression of the village, like I had to exclaim 'wow' because of the beauty of the combination of terraced fields, majestic mountains and forests and the houses of the La Chi ethnic people in the middle of the poetic clouds and sky".
Ban Phung is where heaven and earth meet, a place where majestic nature meets local people. This place has an area of about 17.04 km2, mostly terraced fields cultivated and arranged in no order. However, when they blend together, they create a beautiful combination like a fairyland painting, especially in the rice ripening season.
The whole village is filled with yellow, even more colorful under the highland sunlight of the rice ripening season.
During the rice harvest season, the entire village is bathed in a golden hue, becoming radiant under the highland sunlight. The entire valley becomes sparkling with the color of prosperity and abundance during the harvest season of the local people. Standing from above, visitors have the opportunity to admire the vivid natural picture with terraced fields hidden behind the floating clouds, and the occasional wooden roofs.

The road to "fairyland"
To get to Ban Phung, people usually travel from Coc Pai about 40 km, go along the Red stream, then turn and go another 12 km. Because this road has been carefully made, it is quite easy to go.
“On this trip, because we wanted to explore more about Hoang Su Phi, our group chose to go through Diu village, instead of choosing the easy route below Do stream. The road to the village is quite steep, winding, narrow and at many points we had to stop to ask for directions. Therefore, our group's travel time was twice as long as usual. But in return, we had beautiful pictures in Diu village and it can also be considered a new experience,” Minh Duc confided.
Visitors have to go through many winding slopes and dangerous bends to reach Ban Phung.
In particular, during the trip, Minh Duc had moments of fun, laughing and chatting with his fellow travelers. Nine people from five different provinces, each with a different life and profession, but sharing the same passion for exploring new lands.
The majority of the people here are La Chi ethnic group with many unique cultural features still preserved quite intact.
The best time to admire the beauty of Ban Phung
According to Mr. Minh Duc, the best time to visit Ban Phung is the season of water pouring and the season of ripe rice. From the end of April to the beginning of May is the time when people pour water into the fields, preparing for a new crop. The terraced fields appear like mirrors of the sky, reflecting all the beauty of the land, sky and mountains. With the season of green rice when young, the fragrance of milky rice, July and early August are the most beautiful times. The golden rice season will fall from the end of August to mid-September.
The best time to visit Ban Phung is the flood season and the rice ripening season.
The terraced fields appear like mirrors of the sky, reflecting all the beauty of the land, sky and mountains.
However, tourists should not consider the rice ripening season in Ha Giang as the rice season in Ban Phung. Because every year, the rice in Ban Phung will ripen earlier than other places. You should come here around early to mid-September to see the whole golden ripe rice field that has not been harvested yet. If you come too late, the people will have finished harvesting all the rice, the whole field will be only the gray-black color of mud.
Sharing more with Travellive readers, Mr. Minh Duc said: “Traveling is not about how many places you go or how many people you meet. Traveling is a way to learn about life, broaden your worldview, and especially how many memories you have during that trip. Because the greatest asset you will have in the future is the memories you have experienced.”
