"Meeting at the Weekend" is a comedy program that first aired on Saturday morning, April 1st, 2000. The program's concept was initiated by director and People's Artist Khai Hung.
The approximately 40-minute program quickly won the hearts of a large audience and became one of the most popular comedy shows. "Meeting at the Weekend" also served as a launching pad, bringing the names of artists such as Minh Vuong, Pham Bang, Van Hiep, Quoc Khanh, Xuan Bac, Cong Ly, Tu Long, and Van Dung to fame and closer to the audience.
The show has made a name for many famous comedians.
Initially, the program aired every two weeks. Later, thanks to the strong appeal of its script and talented cast, it became a regular Saturday morning show. By December 2006, the program concluded with a special episode featuring the Titanic on stage and bringing together many comedians from both North and South Vietnam.
The show returns with subtly satirical yet biting situations revolving around current events.
The plot revolves around a five-star train carrying laughter and joy to everyone, but before reaching its destination, it hits an iceberg and has to stop its journey. After "Meeting at the Weekend" ended, from 2007 onwards, the Gala Comedy program - a part of Meeting at the Weekend - was maintained and broadcast quarterly. Since 2010, Gala Comedy has been broadcast regularly on the evening of the second day of the Lunar New Year on VTV3.
