Soneva Fushi, an eco-resort located within the UNESCO-recognized Baa Atoll Biosphere Reserve, is seeking a "barefoot book seller." The job posting, shared on the hotel's official Instagram account in mid-September, describes the position as: "This is for someone who loves reading on a deserted island, selling books barefoot, and living in one of the most beautiful places in the world."
If hired, you would get to live in a resort where guests pay $2,000 per night for a single bedroom and $26,000 per night for a nine-bedroom villa.

This person's task is to manage a bookstore on an island for six months. The job requires someone willing to leave the bustling world behind to sell books on a deserted island in the Maldives. They must be passionate about reading, have good communication skills, and love writing. If these descriptions fit you, then you are the perfect person for the position the hotel is looking for. The resort partnered with UK-based libraries to open its first on-site bookstore in 2018. That was also when they hired their first bookstore employee.
This resort, which was previously closed due to Covid-19, reopened on September 1st, providing full safety measures to prevent the spread of the virus. Visitors are required to wear masks in public areas.

This South Asian island nation is one of the rare cases welcoming tourists from all countries since reopening on July 15th. Tourists are only allowed to visit resort islands, and they need to stay at their accommodation for the entire duration. Initially, the government did not require visitors to have a negative COVID-19 test result. However, the regulations changed on September 11th due to a surge in infections.
