According to statistical reports, the number of Vietnamese tourists visiting Australia is trending upwards, but many remain hesitant due to the complicated visa application process and long processing times.
Vietnam has been recognized as the only Southeast Asian tourist market to see growth in visitors to Australia after the pandemic. This is a positive sign, indicating the enormous potential of the Vietnamese tourism market for Australia.
In 2023, Vietnam welcomed 390,000 Australian tourists, a 2.7-fold increase compared to 2022, exceeding pre-pandemic levels by 2% in 2019. In the first month of 2024, 213,000 Australian tourists visited Vietnam, a 35% increase compared to the same period in 2023. Australia is currently the 7th largest international tourist market for Vietnam. With the current growth rate, it is expected that the number of Vietnamese tourists visiting Australia and vice versa will continue to increase in the coming years.
Australia is a developed country with many tourist destinations around the world in general and in Vietnam in particular.
Vietnam affirms its support for Australia's efforts to strengthen bilateral tourism cooperation through market research projects, tourism data, training on sustainable development, and meaningful activities and conferences like this one.
One of the most important drivers for promoting tourist exchanges between the two countries is facilitating travel and tourism. After the pandemic, Vietnamese airlines opened new routes to increase tourist traffic from various cities in Australia.
Vietnam has also implemented an e-visa program for Australian tourists, shortening visa processing times to just 3-5 days. On this occasion, the Director General of the Vietnam National Administration of Tourism also requested that Australia consider easing visa application procedures and reducing visa processing times for Vietnamese tourists to encourage more Vietnamese visitors to Australia.

In addition to easing visa procedures, the two countries also need to continue cooperating to diversify tourism products, including developing ecotourism, cultural tourism, etc., and improve the quality of tourism services, ensuring that tourists experience professional services and improving tourism infrastructure.
