To meet the anticipated surge in travel demand during the peak summer tourist season of 2025 and a series of national and international events in Binh Dinh, the Civil Aviation Authority of Vietnam has issued a document to domestic airlines, including Vietnam Airlines, VietJet, Bamboo Airways, Pacific Airlines, and Vietravel Airlines, regarding the addition of night flights from Hanoi and Ho Chi Minh City to/from Phu Cat Airport (Binh Dinh).
This directive was issued after the Civil Aviation Authority of Vietnam received an urgent request from the People's Committee of Binh Dinh province. Binh Dinh province is currently entering the peak season of tourism, lasting from June to September 2025. This is the time when Binh Dinh will become the focal point of a series of vibrant, large-scale cultural, sports, and tourism events, promising to attract a large number of tourists, athletes, and delegations from all over the country.
From June to September 2025, Binh Dinh province will organize a series of vibrant cultural, sports, and tourism activities and events of national and international significance.
From June to the end of September 2025, Binh Dinh will continuously organize many noteworthy activities, creating a colorful and vibrant tourism landscape. These include the "Summer Tourism Event Series 2025," a comprehensive program of entertainment, cultural experiences, and attractive tourism activities throughout the summer. In addition, there will be the VnExpress Marathon Quy Nhon 2025, a prestigious marathon attracting thousands of professional and amateur athletes.
This is a golden opportunity for the province to welcome tourists from all over the country to visit.
The province will also host the Miss and Mr. Supermodel World competition, an international beauty and sports event, along with the 34th National Traditional Martial Arts Championship in 2025 – an important traditional sporting event honoring the beauty of Vietnamese martial arts culture. Furthermore, the 2025 National 3x3 Youth Basketball Championship will be an exciting tournament for young basketball talents. In addition, many other sports and cultural events will take place throughout, making Binh Dinh an unmissable destination in the second and third quarters of 2025.
Therefore, the Civil Aviation Authority has requested an increase in night flights from the two major cities to this location.
To accommodate the surge in tourists and event participants, the People's Committee of Binh Dinh province has requested the Civil Aviation Authority of Vietnam to consider, license, and encourage airlines to organize additional night flights from Hanoi and Ho Chi Minh City to Phu Cat Airport and vice versa, from June until the end of 2025.
Recognizing this situation, the Civil Aviation Authority of Vietnam has requested airlines to quickly develop detailed flight schedules and increase resources to serve the peak summer season. In particular, tourist routes such as those to Binh Dinh are predicted to see a significant increase in demand. In total, 68,558 domestic flights are expected to be operated during this period, marking an impressive 18% increase compared to the same period last year.
The People's Committee of Binh Dinh province also proposed that the Civil Aviation Authority of Vietnam consider maintaining night flights until the end of 2025, in order to serve the travel needs of people and tourists, and at the same time create a driving force for the development of local tourism.
Vietnam Airlines has also announced ambitious flight plans for the peak summer season of 2025, with over 43,000 flights and nearly 9 million seats, an increase of almost 14% compared to the same period in 2024. On its domestic network alone, the airline expects 33,000 flights with over 6.3 million seats, an increase of up to 28% compared to its regular flight schedule.
The airline also stated that it will continue to operate early morning and late evening flights to maximize service capacity, ensuring passengers have more flight time options, making it convenient for them to attend events in Binh Dinh. Increasing night flights not only helps relieve pressure on daytime flights but also opens up great opportunities for tourism in Binh Dinh, creating favorable conditions for tourists to fully experience the unique festivals and events in this martial arts land.
