Chairman of the Da Nang City People's Committee, Huynh Duc Tho, has just signed a proposal outlining the investment plan, funding sources, and financial balance for the renovation and upgrading of the building at 42 Bach Dang Street to be used as the Da Nang Museum, to be submitted to the City People's Council at its meeting in early December.
The old building at 42 Bach Dang Street will be the main exhibition space of the Museum.
City leaders stated that the current Da Nang Museum was built in 2005, opened to visitors in 2011, and continues to attract many tourists and locals. However, the museum is located within the core area of the Dien Hai Citadel, a special national historical site – Vietnam's first anti-French resistance fortress from over 160 years ago, which was classified as such in March 2018.

Accordingly, the Da Nang City People's Committee assigned the Department of Culture and Sports as the investor for the project to upgrade and renovate the building at 42 Bach Dang Street to convert its function into a museum, in order to free up and restore the core area of the Dien Hai Citadel relic.
The renovation of the building at 42 Bach Dang Street is planned to cover a total area of over 8,600 square meters.2,It includes three buildings: the existing People's Council headquarters, the building at 44 Bach Dang Street, and the building at 31 Tran Phu Street.
Reportedly, the city intends to spend 507 billion VND on this project, implemented in two phases from 2019 to 2022. This includes preserving the three-story historical building at number 42 (built in 1898) to be converted into an exhibition space and renovating the landscape.
Building No. 44 will retain its original architecture to serve as an administrative office area, with the addition of some service spaces facing the Han River. Building No. 31 Tran Phu will have its floors repurposed into interactive spaces to support the Museum.
Later construction items, such as a two-story horizontal building at 42 Bach Dang Street, the auxiliary building of the City People's Council, the parking garage, the fence, the gate, etc., which are incompatible with the museum's landscape, will be dismantled.
Bach Dang is a street located in the heart of Da Nang city.
Before finalizing this plan, the city held an architectural design competition to select the best ideas. Upon completion, the museum will be connected to the General Library, Thanh Dien Hai Square, and the central administrative area.
