"Peach, Pho and Piano" has just been selected by the Vietnam Film Department and the Ministry of Culture as Vietnam's representative for the preliminary round of the International Feature Film category at the 2025 Oscars after the film received the highest score from the selection committee. Previously, the Vietnam Film Department received an invitation from the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences (AMPAS) to submit a feature film representing Vietnam to the preliminary round of the 97th Academy Awards for International Feature Film.
On September 23, 2024, the selection committee met and chose "Dao, Pho, and Piano" to represent Vietnam at the 2025 Oscars. According to Decision No. 2779/QD-BVHTTDL dated September 25, 2024, of the Minister of Culture, Sports and Tourism, Film Production Joint Stock Company I, in coordination with the Department of Cinema, will register the film, submit the required documents, and send the DCP copies and discs with English subtitles to the 97th Academy Awards Organizing Committee before October 2, 2024.
"Peach, Pho, and Piano" will be screened during the Film Week commemorating the 70th anniversary of the Dien Bien Phu Victory.
On her personal page, actress Nguyet Hang, who plays the pho vendor in the film "Dao, Pho and Piano," posted an announcement that received tens of thousands of likes and comments from viewers. "Good news for all of you who haven't yet watched 'Dao, Pho and Piano.' The film will be shown at 9:20 PM on October 13, 2024 on VTV1," Nguyet Hang wrote.
Before being chosen to represent Vietnam at the Oscars, "Peach, Pho, and Piano" had already achieved considerable success domestically.
This is good news for the film crew and the artists involved in the project, as the film has the opportunity to reach a large television audience across the country. The artists' posts also received thousands of likes and shares from netizens, partly demonstrating the audience's interest in this film.
With its broadcast on VTV, "Peach, Pho and Piano" has the opportunity to reach a wider audience, especially those who haven't had the chance to see the film in theaters.
"Peach, Pho and Piano" was released during the Lunar New Year and immediately became a box office sensation for weeks. It was the most successful state-commissioned film in history, with theaters constantly increasing screenings and ticket sales soaring during the initial trial screenings at the National Film Center in Hanoi.
The film, written and directed by Phi Tien Son, depicts the intense and heroic moments of the 60-day and 60-night battle fought by the army and people of Hanoi (1946-1947), in the final days before our troops retreated to the Viet Bac resistance zone. The soldiers of the Hanoi Regiment fought with the spirit of "Fighting to the death for the survival of the Fatherland."
