1. THE 123rd UME FLOWER FESTIVAL IN MITO - THE LOCATION OF IBARAKI'S LARGEST UME FLOWER FESTIVAL
Event dates: February 16th (Saturday) - March 31st (Sunday)
Since the Meiji 30s (1897), spring in Mito has always been the time of the grand "Mito Ume Flower Festival". The festival is held in one of Japan's three great gardens, "Kairakuen" and "Kodokan," the largest ancient Japanese school for both literature and martial arts. Both sites were recognized as "Contemporary Japanese Cultural and Educational Heritage Sites" in 2015.

At "Kairakuen" garden, there are approximately 3,000 plum trees (Ume) of over 100 different varieties. Meanwhile, at "Kodokan," there are about 800 trees of over 60 varieties that bloom profusely every spring. Depending on the variety, some will bloom as early as mid-January, while others will bloom in early March. Therefore, here you can enjoy plum blossoms for a very long time.

2. 43rd KOGAMOMO FESTIVAL - The Pink World at Hanamomo no Sato
Event dates: March 20th (Wednesday) - April 5th (Friday)
Amidst the vast natural landscape adorned with various flowers blooming throughout the four seasons at Koga Kubo Koen Garden, in spring you can admire the garden covered in a soft pink hue created by over 1,500 flowering plants of 5 different varieties.



During the festival season, besides flowers, there are also stalls selling local specialties, as well as many other fun activities.


In particular, this is the only place where you can take a hot air balloon ride and admire the flower garden from above.

3. Yaezakura Festival - Admire a garden with 100 of the most beautiful cherry blossom trees in Japan.
Event dates: April 16th (Tuesday) - April 29th (Monday)
Shizumine Furusato Koen offers you the privilege of admiring a vast space filled with 100 of the most carefully selected cherry blossom trees in Japan!


The garden boasts approximately 200,000 double-petaled cherry blossom trees, creating a scene that is exceptionally special and famous even in Ibaraki.

In the evening, people here also light up the lights, creating a magnificent nighttime cherry blossom scene that is not seen everywhere.
