1. THE 123rd UME FLOWER FESTIVAL IN MITO - THE LOCATION OF IBARAKI'S LARGEST UME FLOWER FESTIVAL

Event dates: February 16th (Saturday) - March 31st (Sunday)

Since the Meiji 30s (1897), spring in Mito has always been the time of the grand "Mito Ume Flower Festival". The festival is held in one of Japan's three great gardens, "Kairakuen" and "Kodokan," the largest ancient Japanese school for both literature and martial arts. Both sites were recognized as "Contemporary Japanese Cultural and Educational Heritage Sites" in 2015.

A pink carpet stretches across "Kairakuen," one of Japan's top 3 most beautiful gardens.

At "Kairakuen" garden, there are approximately 3,000 plum trees (Ume) of over 100 different varieties. Meanwhile, at "Kodokan," there are about 800 trees of over 60 varieties that bloom profusely every spring. Depending on the variety, some will bloom as early as mid-January, while others will bloom in early March. Therefore, here you can enjoy plum blossoms for a very long time.

2. 43rd KOGAMOMO FESTIVAL - The Pink World at Hanamomo no Sato

Event dates: March 20th (Wednesday) - April 5th (Friday)

Amidst the vast natural landscape adorned with various flowers blooming throughout the four seasons at Koga Kubo Koen Garden, in spring you can admire the garden covered in a soft pink hue created by over 1,500 flowering plants of 5 different varieties.
