"The company stated that the state of California has not issued any guidance on reopening theme parks until after July 4th," the statement said. "It is time to bring thousands of company employees back to work and restart business. However, we have no choice. The delay in reopening theme parks and resorts will continue until we receive approval from government officials."
Disneyland has decided to postpone its reopening date after the number of Covid-19 cases continued to rise, particularly in California.
Disney still needs to continue negotiations before the parks can reopen. The company said the discussions have been entirely positive regarding plans to reopen in the near future. "Once we have a better understanding of the company's guidelines, we can get Disney back to normal operations," the statement said.
Disney World, the chain's flagship resort in Florida, is also planning to reopen next month. Located in Orlando, Florida, Disney World plans to reopen on July 11th for its magic and animal parks, including Magic Kingdom and Animal Kingdom, and will continue to reopen EPCOT and Hollywood Studios on July 15th.
Disneyland Hong Kong reopened on June 18th, imposing strict Covid-19 prevention measures.
