Beginning their second day of the Amazing Tour 8 "Returning to the Land of White Rice and Clear Water" journey, the members had the opportunity to visit Thuan Hung craft village and experience making rice paper themselves - an intangible cultural heritage.

With a history spanning over 200 years, Thuan Hung rice paper making village is located in Thot Not district, about 40 km from the center of Can Tho city. Upon arriving at the village gate, the members of Amazing Tour 8 were immediately greeted by the distinctive aroma of smoke and coconut flour. Particularly striking was the sight of rows of neatly arranged rice paper sheets drying in the sun.

Nghề làm bánh tráng Thuận Hưng là nghề thủ công truyền thống, hình thành từ giữa thế kỷ XIX và được truyền nối qua nhiều thế hệ.

Thuan Hung rice paper making is a traditional craft, established in the mid-19th century and passed down through many generations.

During their exploration of the Western region, the Amazing Tour 8 group not only enjoyed local cakes but also learned the secrets of traditional craft from local artisans, allowing them to experience making rice paper firsthand. The delicious rice paper was made by hand under the guidance of the residents of Thuan Hung village.

Just like a work of art that requires creativity, making rice paper requires adjusting the amount of flour precisely, measuring it with a ladle. After grinding, the rice flour is poured onto a mesh screen stretched over a pot. To make delicious, thin rice paper that doesn't break, ensure a low heat and spread the batter evenly and quickly. The rice paper is steamed for about 15 seconds until cooked.

Actor Quoc Truong excitedly said: "When the rice paper sheets are spread out to dry, they become extremely thin. I thoroughly enjoyed this experience because I was able to create these incredibly thin rice paper sheets myself and learn more about the traditional craft of the local people, which is over 200 years old."

The process of removing the pancakes is also very important, requiring smooth coordination between the person making the pancakes and the person removing them. The pancakes, after being made, are thin and wet, making them very easy to tear. Therefore, the person removing them needs to be skillful and gentle: one hand holding the pancake and the other hand lifting it to place it on the drying rack.

During his hands-on experience making rice paper, travel blogger Vinh Gấu shared: "The first step, pouring the batter onto the cloth over the pot of water, is difficult because it requires meticulousness and quick hands. Next, cooking the rice paper also requires skill because I tore about two of them during the process."

Typically, villagers will check the weather for rain or sunshine before drying the cakes. They also need to dry them in a way that prevents warping and keeps them intact. If the cakes are dried on a sunny day, they will be dry in about 30 minutes; if dried for too long, they will easily break. Once the cakes are dry enough, they are taken out and sorted into portions.

"As someone who loves eating rice paper rolls, today Vinh realized that making a delicious roll requires many steps and a lot of effort from the baker. This makes me appreciate the rice paper rolls I eat even more. Perhaps from now on, Vinh will never throw away leftover rice paper rolls after dipping them," Travel Blogger Vinh Gấu shared.
