Despite selling tickets early, airfares during the Lunar New Year holiday remain high.

Many Vietnamese airlines have simultaneously started selling tickets for the 2025 Lunar New Year holiday since mid-September. However, even with advance bookings, there is "no hope of finding cheap tickets" for some domestic destinations.

With nearly four months remaining until the Lunar New Year of the Snake 2025, airlines have announced the start of ticket sales to meet people's travel needs. Accordingly, Vietnam Airlines Group (including Vietnam Airlines, Pacific Airlines, and VASCO) announced the early sale of nearly 1.5 million seats across its domestic network for travel between January 13th, 2025 and February 12th, 2025 (corresponding to the 14th day of the 12th lunar month to the 15th day of the 1st lunar month).

As usual, the peak flight routes during the 2025 Lunar New Year holiday of airlines are concentrated between the three major cities: Hanoi, Da Nang, and Ho Chi Minh City, to a number of provinces and cities such as Hai Phong, Vinh, Thanh Hoa, Hue, Quy Nhon, Nha Trang, Pleiku, Da Lat, Buon Ma Thuot, and Phu Quoc…

Many Vietnamese airlines have simultaneously started selling tickets for the 2025 Lunar New Year holiday since mid-September.

According to some passengers who decided to book early, the price wasn't cheaper than booking 1-2 months in advance. Conversely, booking late meant not being able to choose a convenient flight time, and might have to fly early in the morning or at night. If the airline delayed the night flight, they would essentially waste the whole night at the airport.

According to preliminary surveys, despite a slight decrease due to early ticket sales, Tet holiday ticket prices on some popular routes of Vietnam Airlines remained high as soon as they went on sale. Specifically, from January 27th to February 2nd, 2025 (i.e., from the 28th day of the 12th lunar month to the 5th day of the 1st lunar month of the Year of the Snake), the Hanoi-Ho Chi Minh City route and routes from Hanoi/Ho Chi Minh City to tourist cities such as Da Nang, Nha Trang, Phu Quoc, Da Lat, etc., ranged from 3.8 to 7.5 million VND/round trip, depending on flight time and airline.

Given the recent sharp increase in airfares and the shortage of aircraft, many people do not expect prices to decrease during the upcoming Tet holiday. Many are even worried that if they don't book early, prices may increase even further closer to Tet.

Many tourist destinations are being booked in advance even though Tet (Lunar New Year) is still far away.

Furthermore, to secure good airfare during the peak Tet holiday season, Vietnamese airlines advise customers to book as early as possible to choose from a range of prices, from lowest to highest; check prices on the airlines' official websites beforehand to get an idea of the general price situation; and avoid buying from online sources offering unusually low prices.

Recently, the Ministry of Labour, Invalids and Social Affairs proposed a 9-day Lunar New Year holiday, starting from Saturday, January 25, 2025, to Sunday, February 2, 2025 (i.e., the end of the 5th day of the first lunar month of the Year of the Snake). This 9-day holiday will allow tourists to take longer trips or 3-4 day trips after celebrating the Lunar New Year with their families.
