Airfare prices skyrocket in the days leading up to holidays.

To date, the average 20% increase in airfare during the National Day holiday, according to data from the Vietnam Civil Aviation Authority, has caused many passengers to carefully consider their options before deciding to travel.

According to the Vietnam Civil Aviation Authority, from August 30th to September 3rd, Vietnamese airlines plan to operate a total of 4,257 flights, averaging 840 flights per day, a 3% increase compared to the week before the holiday and a 3.5% increase compared to the same period in 2023.

Specifically, the average number of domestic flights was 600 per day, a 5% increase compared to the week before the holiday and a 2.8% increase compared to the same period in 2023. The average number of international flights was 241 per day, a 2% decrease compared to the week before the holiday and a 5.1% increase compared to the same period in 2023.

Airfare prices increased by an average of 20% during the National Day holiday.

Flights to Vinh, Binh Dinh, Da Lat, Nha Trang, Phu Quoc, and other localities were also increased, averaging 171 flights/day and 187 flights/day to other localities respectively, representing increases of 2% and 4% compared to the week before the holiday.

According to a survey conducted on August 31st, on the Hanoi - Ho Chi Minh City route, Vietnam Airlines is offering tickets ranging from 2.3 to 3.5 million VND/one-way (including meals), an increase of 23-28%. On the same route, Vietjet Air has airfares ranging from 1.5 to 2.4 million VND/one-way, an increase of 25%.

With the last day of the holiday (September 3rd), booking rates were lower, with only a few routes showing high rates above 60%, such as: Hanoi - Da Lat, Hanoi - Can Tho, Hanoi - Pleiku, Ho Chi Minh City - Hai Phong, Ho Chi Minh City - Pleiku, Ho Chi Minh City - Dong Hoi, and especially the Hanoi - Tuy Hoa route which reached a booking rate of 92.6%.

Many tourist destinations are experiencing a shortage of airline tickets.

The increased number of flights during the holiday period, especially on domestic routes, helped airlines supplement the supply of seats to the market. Accordingly, the total number of seats offered on routes on August 30th and September 3rd was over 885,000, averaging 178,000 seats per day, a 3.2% increase compared to the same period last year.

"This is why the authorities always advise passengers to plan their travel and book tickets early to have more opportunities to choose suitable fares," the Vietnam Civil Aviation Authority shared.

According to the Vietnam Civil Aviation Authority, as of August 29th, the average booking rate on domestic routes during the National Day holiday period reached over 65%. This imbalance has become evident in the booking patterns on domestic routes.
