The simultaneous increase in entrance fees at historical sites in Hanoi, as decided on January 1, 2024, has caused many tourists, students, and schoolchildren to hesitate before deciding to buy tickets to visit.

According to Resolution No. 16/2023/NQ-HĐND of the Hanoi City People's Council on changing entrance fees at historical sites, effective from January 1, 2024, the following changes have been implemented: Van Mieu-Quoc Tu Giam (Temple of Literature) increased from 30,000 VND to 70,000 VND (a 2.3-fold increase); Hoa Lo Prison from 30,000 VND to 50,000 VND; Ngoc Son Temple from 30,000 VND to 50,000 VND (a 1.6-fold increase); Thang Long Imperial Citadel from 30,000 VND to 100,000 VND (a 3.3-fold increase); Co Loa from 10,000 VND to 30,000 VND (a 3-fold increase); Huong Pagoda from 78,000 VND to 120,000 VND (a 1.5-fold increase)... compared to the 2020 regulations.

In particular, Hanoi also gives priority to groups such as: Children under 16 years old and severely disabled people are exempt from entrance fees; senior citizens aged 60 and above, students aged 16 and above, people in particularly difficult mountainous and remote areas, and people with meritorious contributions to the revolution are entitled to a 50% discount on entrance fees.

The Hoa Lo Prison historical site is one of the places where entrance fees have increased.

Recent experience shows that the increase in ticket prices has had a certain impact on tourists, especially with the upcoming April 30th - May 1st holiday. The price increase at most historical sites has put pressure on tours and travel routes; many travel companies have had to recalculate tour costs for their customers. Domestic tourists, students, and the elderly have become more cautious about visiting historical sites because they have to spend a considerable amount of money compared to the general cost of living.

Public opinion is concerned about some preferential regulations such as "severely disabled people," "people in particularly difficult mountainous and remote areas," etc., as they are still vague and may easily lead to questions and disputes during application.

Previously, according to Resolution 06/2020/NQ-HĐND of the Hanoi City People's Council, the entrance fee for one visit to the following sites was 30,000 VND per person: Van Mieu - Quoc Tu Giam, Ngoc Son Temple, Hoa Lo Prison, Thang Long Imperial Citadel, Co Loa Citadel, and the highest fee of 78,000 VND for Huong Pagoda...

As a result, most entrance fees to Hanoi's scenic spots, historical sites, and cultural landmarks have increased.
