Can Tho sightseeing in one day.

19/11/2019

As the leading city in the Mekong Delta, Can Tho serves as both an urban center for the delta's farming and fishing communities and a repository of traditional riverine culture. Check out Travellive's itinerary for a one-day exploration of Can Tho.

Cai Rang Floating Market

Located about 6 km by road from Can Tho city center and a 30-minute boat ride from Ninh Kieu Wharf, Cai Rang Floating Market specializes in trading agricultural products, fruits, goods, food, and drinks on the river, and is a unique tourist attraction in Cai Rang district.

In the past, floating markets formed when roads and land transportation were underdeveloped. The need for buying and selling goods led people to gather on the river using means of transport such as canoes, boats, and motorboats. Today, although the road network has developed extensively, floating markets still exist and are becoming increasingly bustling. While locals and people from neighboring areas often use medium-sized boats to transport agricultural products here for sale, the larger boats belong to traders who buy fruit and distribute it far and wide, even to Cambodia and China.

Immersing themselves in the bustling atmosphere of the market, visitors can observe and learn about the lives of many merchant families with multiple generations living together on their boats. Some boats are like "mobile apartments" on the water, complete with potted plants, pets, and amenities such as TVs, DVD players, sound systems, and even motorbikes parked on board.

Traditional noodle shop

Besides the Cai Rang floating market, the second interesting attraction you should visit is the traditional rice noodle factory. Cai Rang has many families making rice noodles, the most famous being the Chin Cuu and Sau Hoai factories... near Rau Ram bridge, attracting many foreign tourists.

It's best to visit the factory in the morning to see firsthand each step in making the chewy, subtly sweet rice noodles – from cooking the rice paper, drying it, cutting it into noodles, and other processes. They offer a variety of colorful noodles, made from natural ingredients – red from gac fruit, green from pandan leaves, white from rice flour… Especially, you'll get to try some of the traditional noodle-making processes at the Sáu Hoài factory.

This place is also famous for its "Noodle Pizza." This dish, often described as an Italian pizza with a Vietnamese twist, consists of crispy fried rice noodles topped with a thin layer of egg, peanuts, braised pork, and various vegetables.

The Mười Cương cocoa garden in Mỹ Ái hamlet (Mỹ Khánh commune, Phong Điền district) is a fascinating stop for tourists who love the Mekong Delta's riverside landscape. Here, in addition to enjoying products made from cocoa beans, visitors also have the opportunity to experience with the owners the processes of fermenting cocoa beans, drying them in cast iron pots, grinding them into powder, processing them into finished products, and can even buy some to take home as souvenirs.

Binh Thuy Ancient House

Located at 144 Bui Huu Nghia Street, Binh Thuy Ward, Binh Thuy District, the nearly 150-year-old Binh Thuy Ancient House is one of the few remaining relatively intact ancient architectural works in Can Tho. The house was recognized as a National Architectural and Artistic Monument by the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism in 2009.

In 1870, Mr. Duong Van Vi (the third generation of the Duong family) chose the land near the mouth of Binh Thuy canal as the location to build his house and establish his business. To this day, the house is still owned and managed by the sixth generation of the Duong family.

The house has an area of 6,000 square meters.2The house was designed with five bays (breaking the traditional three-bay rule in the Western region). Mr. Duong Chan Ky (fourth generation) renovated the house in European architecture, giving it an antique, dignified yet spacious and elegant feel. Mr. Duong Van Ngon (fifth generation) collected many rare orchid varieties to cultivate, making the Bich Thuy orchid garden famous to this day.

Possessing long-standing cultural, artistic, and historical value, Binh Thuy ancient house is often chosen as a filming location for films about old Vietnam, such as: The Beauty of Tay Do, The Roads of Alluvial Plains, and Debt of Life… Notably, the classic French film L'Amant (The Lover) was also filmed here in 1992.

Enjoy a relaxing stay at Azerai Can Tho.

After a day exploring Can Tho, a stop at the Azerai resort would be a perfect choice. Nestled on a lush green island in the Hau River – a major tributary of the Mekong – the resort offers elegant, comfortable, and well-serviced accommodations at affordable prices, while showcasing the region's charming and long-standing riverine culture. Although only 1 km from the city center, the natural beauty of Au Island – a 21-hectare nature reserve in the middle of the Hau River where Azerai is located – creates a peaceful space, a striking contrast to the hustle and bustle of Can Tho city.
