The second wave of the Covid-19 pandemic in Vietnam has caused a sharp decline in domestic tourism, including in Hanoi. However, measures to ensure the safety of tourists and residents remain a top priority. Tourism agencies and businesses in the city have collaborated to plan responses and activate disease prevention systems.

According to Mr. Tran Trung Hieu, Deputy Director of the Hanoi Department of Tourism, large-scale tourism activities will be temporarily suspended in August. At the same time, the Hanoi Department of Tourism has requested travel agencies and businesses in Hanoi to temporarily halt tours to areas currently experiencing outbreaks. New tourism products should also be prepared by travel agencies so that as soon as the pandemic is better controlled, Hanoi can launch tourism stimulus programs again.
Currently, tourist destinations in Hanoi such as Thang Long Imperial Citadel, Temple of Literature, Hoa Lo Prison, Ngoc Son Temple, etc., are all required to strictly implement COVID-19 prevention and control measures for visitors. These sites will be disinfected, and visitors are requested to wear masks. For the Hoan Kiem pedestrian zone, all festival activities and large gatherings must be temporarily suspended to prevent the spread of the disease.

To minimize losses for travel businesses during the pandemic, the Hanoi Tourism Association has also sent a letter requesting the Department of Tourism and the Tourism Associations of key tourist provinces and cities nationwide to create conditions and encourage businesses and service providers in their areas to share the losses caused by Covid-19 through forms such as reserving tours and services until a suitable time, not imposing cancellation penalties, or possibly refunding costs to travel businesses.
