According to Quang Nam Newspaper, the People's Committee of Hoi An city (Quang Nam province) recently issued a pilot plan for a civilized street model on Nguyen Thi Minh Khai and Tran Phu streets. Accordingly, the authorities are mobilizing residents and businesses along these two streets to work together to build a civilized and exemplary street. Simultaneously, they will decorate and renovate the streets to suit the space of the ancient town, aiming for civilized sightseeing and shopping.
Tran Phu and Nguyen Thi Minh Khai streets will also be the first two pedestrian streets in Hoi An to say no to plastic bags and plastic waste. Businesses will be decorated, renovated, and display advertisements according to regulations. Business owners are also required to behave in a civilized and friendly manner; goods must have clearly displayed prices, and there should be no haggling or touting with customers.
The city of Hoi An will mobilize residents and businesses along the two parallel streets to build a civilized street.
In particular, authorities will thoroughly address the issues of touting, soliciting, begging, street vending, and noise pollution on these two streets. Two model pedestrian streets will be piloted in 2024. Hoi An aims to expand this model to the entire Old Town and buffer zone by 2025.
Recently, Architectural Digest magazine announced the results of its poll and honored Tran Phu Street in Hoi An as one of the 71 most beautiful streets in the world (ranked 45th out of 71).
The city will renovate the streets to be in harmony with the space of the old town; aiming to create a civilized, safe, and friendly shopping and sightseeing street for tourists.
