Malaysia is building the world's longest water slide.

Measuring 1,140 meters long and 78 meters high above sea level, the water slide at Escape theme park in Penang will break the current record held by a 602-meter-long slide at a water park in New Jersey, USA.

Sim Choo Kheng, CEO of the theme park, said: "Our plan was to build a water slide that would allow visitors to see the entire park, and although we didn't intend to break a world record, we are proud of what we have achieved."

Visitors will spend four minutes sliding down a hilltop, crossing Jalan Teluk Bahang, before reaching the amusement park's swimming pool.

According to Mr. Kheng: "I am very concerned about the environment here, so we have tried our best to preserve the green forest without cutting it down. Perhaps after completion, the water slide will become the main attraction."

He also revealed that a 400-meter-long cable car connecting the foot of the hill to the water slide would be completed at the same time as this record-breaking water slide.
