During the recent Lunar New Year (Year of the Snake), airports across Vietnam witnessed a significant increase in passenger numbers.

Recently, according to statistics from the Vietnam Civil Aviation Authority, the total number of passengers passing through airports nationwide reached an impressive figure of approximately 3.6 million, including passengers on transit and connecting flights. Compared to the same period during last year's Lunar New Year, this year's passenger numbers have grown spectacularly, exceeding 16%.

At airports, significant passenger numbers were recorded compared to the previous year. Specifically, Tan Son Nhat Airport, the country's largest air gateway, served approximately 1.38 million passengers, a 7.6% increase compared to the same period last year. Noi Bai Airport, the aviation hub of the northern region, also witnessed impressive growth with approximately 900,000 passengers, equivalent to a 12% increase.

In Central Vietnam, Da Nang Airport, one of Vietnam's most attractive tourist destinations, recorded the highest growth among key airports, reaching over 381,000 passengers, a 26% increase compared to 2024.

In total, approximately 3.6 million passengers traveled through the airports, marking a 16% increase compared to the same period in 2024.

On January 24th (the 25th day of the 12th lunar month), Tan Son Nhat Airport recorded a record number of takeoffs and landings, handling 1,002 takeoffs and landings (a 10% increase compared to the same period in 2024), with 152,000 passengers (a 13% increase compared to the same period in 2024). This level of operation was also higher than during the Lunar New Year holiday in 2020.

This growth is not limited to a single passenger group. Both international and domestic passengers recorded significant increases. Specifically, the number of international passengers reached 1.35 million, a 23% increase compared to the previous year, demonstrating the attractiveness of Vietnamese tourism to international visitors. Meanwhile, domestic passenger transport also increased by 12%, reaching 1.14 million, reflecting the demand for travel and family reunions during the Tet holiday.

In particular, Vietnamese airlines have made a significant contribution to this growth. With over 1.67 million passengers transported (a 12.8% increase compared to the same period in 2024), Vietnamese airlines have affirmed their leading role in the market. In addition, the airlines also transported nearly 7,000 tons of cargo, a 4% increase compared to the previous year, demonstrating the aviation industry's contribution to the country's trade activities.
