Hanoi in early October put on a new, brilliant coat, filled with flags, banners and colorful welcome gates, celebrating the 70th anniversary of the Capital Liberation Day. In that joyful atmosphere, people and tourists coming to the Capital also participated in meaningful events to honor the historical value of "Victory Day" and look back at 25 years since Hanoi proudly received the title "City for Peace" from UNESCO.
From October 4 to October 13, Hanoians will be immersed in the heroic historical space of the exhibition "Memories of Hanoi - 70 years" and the photo exhibition "Hoan Kiem District - Historical Images" at Phung Hung mural street. With "Memories of Hanoi - 70 years", the organizing committee coordinated with artists and researchers to decorate and arrange models of the old quarter, welcome gates, flags, banners, slogans... along Phung Hung street.
The exhibition "Memories of Hanoi - 70 years" authentically recreates the space of old Hanoi in Hanoi's Old Quarter during the National Resistance War, from the fighting days to the day of taking over the Capital.
Through valuable documentary photos, the exhibition "Hoan Kiem District - Historical Images" vividly recreates the difficult and heroic years of the army and people of Hoan Kiem District. Visitors will be able to go back in time, looking back at the proud transformation of the center of Hanoi during the period of the national resistance war against the French until the day of taking over the capital (1945 - 1954).
Fully recreating the transformation of Hoan Kiem district in a proud decade (1945 - 1954), the documentary photo exhibition "Hoan Kiem District - Historical Images" brings visitors vivid documents about a glorious time of Hoan Kiem district and contributes to building and promoting the spirit of national pride and passionate patriotism.
Many unique art programs, experiential activities, and interactive learning about culture and history organized within the framework of the exhibition will also help people and tourists immerse themselves in the joyful atmosphere of the capital's people on the day they welcomed the victorious army back home in the fall of 70 years ago.
The space around the lake is transformed into a historical stage, where the resounding imprints of Hanoi are depicted through many live art performances. Famous landmarks associated with Hanoi such as the 5 Citadels, Doan Mon Gate (Imperial Citadel of Thang Long), Long Bien Bridge, and Hanoi Flag Tower, where the red flag with yellow star fluttered in the first flag-raising ceremony on October 10, 1954, are vividly recreated, bringing deep emotions to the audience.
The parade program vividly recreates the image of the army marching to Hanoi in the historic moment of October 10, 1954, when the Vietnamese army took over the capital.
In particular, from 7:00 a.m. to 10:00 a.m. on October 6, 2024, the program "Cultural Festival for Peace" took place in the Hoan Kiem Lake area, attracting more than 10,000 participants, including artisans, artists, soldiers and people from districts across the capital. The parades, music festivals and unique art performances spread the message about the value of culture, peace and creativity of the people of Thang Long - Hanoi through the ages.
Also here, the image of the victorious army marching amidst the sky of flags and flowers was recreated once again. Immortal songs such as "Marching to Hanoi" and "Hanoi People" resounded in the heart of the capital, reminding people of national pride and the great sacrifices of previous generations.
“Culture Festival for Peace” is also the largest gathering place for exchange between artisans, artists and people.
The series of commemorative events also expanded the traditional culinary culture space, with booths introducing famous craft village products of Hanoi such as Bat Trang pottery, Van Phuc silk, along with typical dishes such as Com Vong, Uoc Le sausage, Thanh Tri rice rolls... products that not only demonstrate the talent and ingenuity of Hanoians, but also unique cultural features that make up the identity of the capital.
With its special excitement and historical significance, the series of events celebrating the 70th anniversary of the Capital Liberation Day is not only an occasion to remember, but also a bridge between the past and present generations, reminding us to always remember and be grateful for the past, to strive to preserve the priceless peace of the present, as well as to put all our faith in a Hanoi that continues to develop strongly, worthy of being the Capital of a thousand years of culture.
