During their journey from Cam Pha to anchor at the port area in Bai Chay ward, Ha Long city, two overnight cruise ships belonging to Indochina Cruise Joint Stock Company suddenly caught fire. Initially, the fire unexpectedly broke out on one ship, but due to strong winds at sea and the close proximity of both ships, the flames quickly spread to the adjacent vessel.
The two ships that caught fire were named Ngoc Rong 03, registration number QN-6218, and Cong Chua, registration number QN-5616. Both ships had been out of service for nearly two years, so they were not carrying passengers; only crew members were working on board.
Fortunately, those on the boat were rescued in time and there were no casualties.
After hours of effort, although the fire was extinguished, both ships were almost completely destroyed.
Immediately after the incident occurred, Ha Long International Passenger Port mobilized its forces, along with specialized fire-fighting vessels, in coordination with relevant authorities and several nearby ships, to extinguish the fire.
According to the Ha Long International Passenger Port, both cruise ships were not registered to operate at the port but originated from elsewhere, and the fire occurred in the area.
Currently, the authorities of Quang Ninh province are coordinating with the People's Committee of Ha Long city to investigate and clarify the cause of the fire and to assess the initial damage.
