According to data from the Department of Culture and Information of Moc Chau town, from the 3rd day of Tet (January 31, 2025) to February 17, the locality welcomed more than 250,000 visitors to experience the plum blossom season. On average, Moc Chau receives about 10,000 visitors per day, a number that doubles on weekends. It is expected that by the end of February, the total number of visitors could reach 1 million, generating an estimated revenue of approximately 1,200 billion VND.
This year, the plum blossom season in Moc Chau has witnessed a fascinating phenomenon, with the flowers blooming in a rare and outstanding beauty, far surpassing previous years. This magnificent beauty has created a strong attraction, prompting tourists from all over to flock to admire and enjoy it. A tourist garden owner said that the number of visitors this year is significantly higher than in previous years thanks to the plum blossoms being at their most beautiful in many years.
Son La and Moc Chau are currently in full bloom with plum blossoms, attracting tourists from all over, and accommodations are constantly fully booked.
The plum blossom season has created a positive domino effect, leading to a significant increase in tourist numbers. This year's visitor numbers have surged compared to previous years, generating enormous revenue for the local tourism industry. Tourist gardens, homestays, and other tourism services have all benefited from this plum blossom craze.
Reportedly, the entrance fee to the flower garden remains at 30,000 VND per adult, free for children, while homestay room prices range from 600,000 to 800,000 VND per night. The garden welcomes nearly 1,000 visitors daily. During the two peak weeks, revenue reaches 300-500 million VND.
With plum blossoms currently in full bloom, Moc Chau has become one of the most popular tourist destinations in the North.
However, the influx of tourists has led to widespread traffic congestion on smaller roads, rest stops, and in the central area of Moc Chau. On travel forums, many tourists have shared their experiences of difficulty finding hotel rooms. Some local households have utilized their private homes to provide accommodation services, helping to alleviate the overcrowding.
Moc Chau town has approximately 300 tourist accommodation establishments such as hotels, guesthouses, and homestays. Therefore, this number is insufficient to serve the surge in visitors compared to the same period last year. All accommodations are operating at full capacity, achieving a 100% occupancy rate. Even on weekdays, there are few rooms available, and some places are accepting reservations until the end of February.
This year, during the plum blossom season, whether it's a weekday or a weekend, accommodation bookings are still fully booked at all establishments.
Due to overwhelming demand for accommodation during peak season, and following the campaign by the Moc Chau town authorities to "ensure no guest is left without accommodation in the cold weather," many local residents on Moc Chau travel groups are willing to offer free accommodation to visitors. Most accommodations are equipped with heating lamps.
Despite a 50% increase in visitors this year compared to the same period last year, the owner of a homestay in sub-district 3, Moc Chau agricultural town, affirms that they are not raising prices based on the peak season. The previously listed prices remain unchanged.
The plum blossom season is also the peak season for tourism in Moc Chau throughout the year.
Given the sudden surge in tourist numbers, the Moc Chau town authorities recommend that visitors book their accommodations in advance. Simultaneously, the local government is coordinating with tourism businesses to update information on plum blossoms and accommodation options, ensuring timely information is provided to tourists. Furthermore, households with spare rooms are being encouraged to participate in accommodation services if they meet safety and quality standards.
The plum blossom season in Moc Chau will continue for a short while longer, promising to attract even more tourists to experience the dreamy beauty of the Northwest highlands.
