According to statistics from Deutsche Bank, based in Germany, Istanbul is the cheapest weekend getaway destination. The cost of a weekend trip to the Turkish city is $711, only half the cost of a weekend getaway in New York, USA.

The largest city in Türkiye is renowned for its diverse blend of Eastern and Western cultures. The best time to visit Istanbul is in spring or autumn, when the weather is "perfect" and the festival season is at its peak.

Following closely behind Istanbul in terms of weekend getaway costs is Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia, with an estimated cost of around $754 USD. Here is a list of the 10 most affordable weekend getaway destinations (costs in parentheses are estimated):

When considering each criterion individually, Zurich scores exceptionally high in purchasing power, safety, and pollution. Wellington has an advantage in the property price-to-income ratio, commuting time, and pollution. Copenhagen scores highly in healthcare, commuting time, and pollution. San Francisco (USA) leads in monthly salaries among cities with $6,526 (after tax), while Zurich has a salary of "only" $5,896.

Zurich has relatively expensive rental prices. The city ranks fourth for monthly rent for a mid-range two-bedroom apartment, at $2,538. Zurich is only behind Hong Kong ($3,685), San Francisco ($3,631), and New York ($2,909).
