International visitors increased sharply.
Vietnamese airlines transported 44.1 million passengers, a 20.3% increase compared to the same period in 2022. International passenger numbers increased sharply by 300.2%, reaching 11.5 million, while domestic passenger numbers decreased by 3.6%, reaching 32.6 million.
According to the Vietnam Civil Aviation Authority, five Vietnamese airlines are currently operating 67 routes connecting Hanoi, Ho Chi Minh City, and Da Nang with 19 other local airports, with over 650 flights per day. In addition to increasing the frequency of existing routes, Vietnamese airlines are also operating several new routes such as Can Tho - Van Don and Hanoi - Ca Mau.

The international air cargo market continues its recovery momentum, with the majority of traditional markets (excluding China and Russia) and the emergence of several new markets in Central Asia such as Kazakhstan, Uzbekistan, and Turkmenistan.
In addition, Vietnamese airlines are also stepping up their operations on routes to India and Australia.
Currently, 64 foreign airlines and 5 Vietnamese airlines operate in the international market with over 169 international routes connecting 28 countries and territories in North America, Europe, the Middle East, Asia, and Africa to destinations in Vietnam such as Hanoi, Da Nang, Ho Chi Minh City, Cam Ranh, Phu Quoc, Da Lat, and Hue.
Of these, the top 10 international markets with the highest number of international passengers transported to Vietnam are South Korea, Thailand, Taiwan, Japan, China, Singapore, Malaysia, Hong Kong (China), Australia, and India.
Air cargo volume decreased.
While the passenger market is trending upwards, cargo throughput at airports is declining. In the first nine months of the year, the total air cargo market decreased by approximately 18% compared to the same period in 2022, reaching 762,000 tons.
Cargo throughput at airports reached 887,500 tons, a decrease of 15.3%. Of this, international cargo decreased by 24% to 637,000 tons, while domestic cargo reached 250,400 tons, an increase of 19.5%. Cargo transported by Vietnamese airlines reached 230,000 tons, an increase of 8.7%.
