Heavy rains and landslides are occurring in Nepal, making travel unsafe for tourists.

Vietnamese Ambassador to India, Nepal and Bhutan, Mr. Pham Sanh Chau, said on July 11 that a group of 13 Vietnamese and 5 Nepalese tourists were stranded due to floods and landslides in Khang Sang village, about 150 km from Kathmandu. The group of 8 men and 5 women from Ho Chi Minh City arrived in Nepal on July 5.

After informing the Vietnamese Embassy, the Honorary Consul in Nepal coordinated with local authorities to search and assist the delegation. On July 13, the delegation was safely transported by helicopter to the capital Kathmandu.

According to CNN, floods and landslides have killed 69 people, more than 31 are missing; more than 16,000 households have been evacuated and at least 2,500 people have been rescued. According to Nepalese police, about two million people have been directly affected by the floods.

In the face of dangerous natural disasters, the Vietnamese Embassy recommends that Vietnamese citizens do not travel to Nepal during the rainy season from now until the end of September. For information or assistance, visitors can contact the citizen protection hotline of the Vietnamese Embassy in India: +91997 125 7204, or the citizen protection hotline +84 981 848484.

The warning comes as the monsoon season in Nepal runs from July to the end of September. Since last weekend, heavy rains have started affecting parts of South Asia, with Nepal being the worst hit.
