On the morning of December 22nd, in an interview with a reporter, Mr. Nguyen Minh Chuyen - representative of the Mau Son Tourism Promotion Information Center - said: "The temperature at the summit of Mau Son recorded this morning was about -2.5 degrees Celsius. However, there was no ice or snow; the weather was just cold and dry."
The National Center for Meteorological and Hydrological Forecasting has just updated the impact of the strengthening cold front. Accordingly, the Gulf of Tonkin has experienced strong northeasterly winds of level 6, sometimes level 7, gusting to level 8; the central coastal region has experienced strong winds of level 6, gusting to level 9.
According to the latest temperature readings at 6 AM on December 22nd, temperatures in some areas have dropped below zero, such as Mau Son (Lang Son) at -2.2°C. Many other places experienced even lower temperatures, including Sa Pa (Lao Cai) at 3.8°C and Cao Bang at 6.5°C.
Meanwhile, in Yen Bai province, on the morning of December 22nd, temperatures in Mu Cang Chai district dropped below 2 degrees Celsius, and frost appeared at Khau Nha peak, bordering La Pan Tan and Cao Pha communes.
According to Mr. Pham Tien Lam, Secretary of the Party Committee of La Pan Tan commune, due to the strengthening cold front, temperatures here have dropped significantly in recent days, with many places recording only 2 degrees Celsius and frost appearing in several locations.
The commune has directed schools to implement measures to protect students from the cold, especially by suspending all outdoor activities; at the same time, it has formed teams to inspect the work of preventing hunger and cold for livestock.
