According to information from Bangkok Post, the Mass Rapid Transport Authority of Thailand (MRTA) has made a welcome decision to extend the operating hours of four main subway lines by two hours on New Year's Eve 2025.
This decision not only meets the travel needs of people and tourists during this important festival but also helps reduce the serious traffic congestion that often occurs during major holidays. Thanks to that, everyone can comfortably enjoy the vibrant festival atmosphere without having to worry about transportation.
To serve the travel needs of people and tourists during the New Year, Thailand's subway system has decided to extend its operating hours by 2 hours on New Year's Eve.
Surapong Piyachote, Deputy Minister of Transport, affirmed that all government agencies are actively implementing detailed plans to ensure absolute safety for residents and visitors during the upcoming festival. The authorities are closely coordinating to inspect, repair and upgrade the transport system, especially in crowded areas. In addition, the authorities will also increase patrols and controls to ensure traffic order and safety and prevent possible bad situations.
MRTA specifically informed that trains on the purple, green, yellow and pink lines will run until 2 a.m. on January 1 to facilitate the movement of people planning to attend the New Year countdown event, especially at major locations in Bangkok such as Iconsiam shopping mall, CentralWorld and One Bangkok.
This means that the four main subway lines will be open until 2am, making it easier for people to get around.
Parking lots will also be open until 1 a.m. on January 2 along the purple, blue, yellow, and green lines, and 2 a.m. on the pink line. The company has launched a fare-free policy to encourage the use of public transport on this day.
The atmosphere of Lunar New Year in Bangkok is always full of joy and warmth. Besides the vibrant entertainment activities, Thai people also take time to participate in traditional Buddhist ceremonies at ancient temples. The ringing of temple bells combined with the cheerful laughter of everyone creates a truly special atmosphere. And when night falls, visitors can enjoy wonderful moments watching the brilliant fireworks display on the Chao Phraya River.
