The global electronic visa system E-Visa is an upgraded version of Thailand's visa issuance process to ensure convenience for foreign citizens who want to apply for an entry visa to the Land of Golden Pagodas for purposes other than tourism.
Foreign Minister Maris Sangiampongsa said that from January 1, 2025, Thailand's e-visa system will be effective at all 94 Thai embassies and consulates.
After a decade-long research and testing process, Thailand officially announced that the electronic visa system (e-Visa) will go into operation globally.
Instead of having to queue and submit many documents at embassies, visitors can conveniently and securely apply for visas at www.thaievisa.go.th anywhere and anytime and pay visa fees online via Kasikorn Bank, said Mr. Worawoot Pongprapapant, Director General of the Consular Department.
However, Mr. Worawoot said that visitors from some countries will still have to present payment receipts at embassies and consulates. The e-visa system will apply to tourists, students and workers. A copy of the approved e-visa will be sent to the applicant via email. Currently, tourists from 93 countries do not need to apply for a visa in advance and can stay in Thailand for up to 60 days.
This is an important step in simplifying entry procedures, creating more favorable conditions for international tourists to come to the "Land of Golden Pagodas".
The implementation of the E-Visa system to strengthen seamless tourism is in line with the government’s policy to continue to comprehensively upgrade the visa system of the Land of Golden Pagodas, simplifying all procedures for traveling to Thailand. This system will help Thailand strengthen its image and reputation as a friendly destination for all tourists and a country that is always open to international cooperation and business.
Since the Covid-19 pandemic, Thailand has recorded steady growth in tourism and foreign investment. Foreign Minister Maris expects the E-visa system to ensure Thailand’s competitiveness in the global market and affirm its leading position in regional and international connectivity, especially during the current peak period of international tourism.
According to the Ministry of Tourism and Sports, Thailand recorded nearly 33 million international arrivals this year, up 30% from the same period last year. The Tourism Authority of Thailand recently announced its tourism development plan for 2025, which prioritizes niche markets, focusing on four main segments – wellness, luxury experiences, sports tourism and romantic or honeymoon tourism.
