The global electronic visa system (E-Visa) is an upgraded version of Thailand's visa application process, designed to ensure convenience for foreign citizens wishing to apply for entry visas to Thailand for purposes other than tourism.
Foreign Minister Maris Sangiampongsa announced that from January 1, 2025, Thailand's electronic visa system will be in effect at all 94 Thai embassies and consulates.
After a decade of research and testing, Thailand officially announced that its electronic visa (e-Visa) system will be operational globally.
According to Mr. Worawoot Pongprapapant, Director of the Consular Department, instead of having to queue and submit numerous documents at embassies, tourists can conveniently and securely apply for visas at www.thaievisa.go.th from anywhere and at any time, and pay the visa fee online through Kasikorn Bank.
However, Mr. Worawoot said that visitors from some countries will still have to present payment receipts at embassies and consulates. The electronic visa system will apply to tourists, students, and workers. A copy of the approved electronic visa will be sent to the applicant via email. Currently, tourists from 93 countries do not need to apply for a visa in advance and can stay in Thailand for up to 60 days.
This is an important step in simplifying immigration procedures, making it even easier for international tourists to visit the "Land of the Golden Temples".
The implementation of the E-Visa system aims to strengthen seamless tourism, aligning with the government's policy of comprehensively upgrading Thailand's visa system and simplifying all procedures for traveling to Thailand. This system will help Thailand reinforce its image and reputation as a tourist-friendly destination and a country always open to international cooperation and business.
Since the Covid-19 pandemic, Thailand has recorded steady growth in tourism and foreign investment. Foreign Minister Maris expects the E-visa system to ensure Thailand's competitiveness in the global market and affirm its leading position in regional and international connectivity, especially during the current peak international tourism season.
According to the Ministry of Tourism and Sports, Thailand has recorded nearly 33 million international visitors this year, a 30% increase compared to the same period last year. The Tourism Authority of Thailand recently announced its tourism development plan for 2025, prioritizing niche markets and focusing on four main segments – wellness, luxury experiences, sports tourism, and romantic or honeymoon tourism.
