Three wise men
The first origin of the name Three Wise Men appears in the story of three wise men visiting the baby Jesus. According to the Bible, when Jesus was born, three kings representing Africa, Asia and Europe came to present him with many precious gifts. However, the recorded documents do not determine exactly whether these three people were priests, astrologers, doctors or scholars..., so they are collectively called the three wise men.
The story of "the three wise men visiting the Child Jesus" is depicted on the mosaic
But those are the three wise men of the Bible. To whiskey lovers, these three men are called: Jim Beam, Jack Daniel's, and Johnnie Walker. They are the fathers of three famous brands of the same name; and also the three main ingredients of the Three Wise Men cocktail.
Three Wise Men is a blend of three whiskies: Jack Daniel's, Jim Beam, Johnnie Walker
The first name to be mentioned is Jack Daniel's - the most familiar "friend" of men in every bar. Produced in Tennessee (USA), Jack Daniel's is still the choice of most Americans - from young to old, because of the traditional and modern flavors that this wine brings. The combination of oak, pepper, and spices creates a strong impression, somewhat heavy and difficult to swallow, while vanilla is the smooth, melodious ending, lingering even the "hardest" men.
Following Jack Daniel's is Johnnie Walker - a blended Scotch Whisky. The Johnnie Walker used to blend Three Wise Men is usually Red Label - one of the brand's most popular and easy-to-drink varieties. Red Label is introduced by the company as being made from more than 35 different flavoring ingredients, creating an amber color, a pleasant blend of spicy and fragrant, smoky flavors.
The third piece of the Three Wise Men puzzle is the world’s most famous bourbon brand – Jim Beam. Of the three whiskies that make up Three Wise Men, Jim Beam is perhaps the most deeply flavored and profound. Half of Jim Beam is sweet from corn, half is rich from two years of aging in oak barrels with a smoky aroma.
Strong and healthy
Most cocktails are a sophisticated blend of base liquors, liqueurs, and natural ingredients and flavors; and Three Wise Men is certainly an unusual cocktail, unlike any common recipe. Just one shot of Jack Daniel's, one shot of Jim Beam, one shot of Johnnie Walker with 2-3 ice cubes, stir everything in a shaker until it reaches the perfect chill, then pour it into a rock glass and enjoy. Hearing how it is prepared sounds so monotonous, so monotonous that it... disappoints. Indeed, if the drinker is not knowledgeable about each type of alcohol, he will frown right after the first sip and quickly exclaim:What a cocktail, it smells so strong of whiskey!
Conventional cocktails are a mix of alcohol and natural flavors.
But, if you are a whiskey lover, Three Wise Men will become a challenging conquest. Not only because of the strength of this cocktail, but also because of the layers of flavor that appear and disappear in each sip. Sometimes harsh, sometimes sweet, sometimes neutral. A drinker with an aesthetic attitude will not only be able to drink it, but also want to listen to it, slowly talk to it, patiently discover it. After all, this cocktail does not need the support of syrups, fruits or carbonated water like other cocktails. The three ingredients that make up Three Wise Men are themselves quintessential, independent individuals, without the need for any elaborate additions or decorations. The same goes for “The Wise Man”. At first glance, it looks shabby and simple, but after tasting it, you will know that in that simplicity lies many ups and downs.
Three Wise Men not only satisfies those who are looking for a strong, brave drink, but is also the perfect choice for vegetarians and dieters, because this cocktail contains nothing but alcohol.
Where to find these "three wise men"?
Most bars in Vietnam currently do not have the Three Wise Men cocktail on their menu. But that does not mean they do not serve it. With only three popular liquors (which every bar has) - Jack Daniel's, Johnnie Walker, Jim Beam - perhaps the bartenders are silently waiting for a customer brave enough to whisper to them: "I want a Three Wise Men".
