Looking at the tranquil Bao Vinh of today, few know that it was once a bustling port town, a thriving hub of trade in the Thanh Ha - Bao Vinh port city chain from the early 17th century. The only remaining traces of that golden age are the old, leaning tiled-roof houses, nearly 200 years old, interspersed with modern houses with corrugated iron or flat roofs. However, the ancient, profound charm of Bao Vinh has not been lost; it is still preserved, to some extent, in the simple lifestyle of its people.

The ancient town of Bao Vinh has been a focus of preservation efforts by the Thua Thien Hue provincial government for many years, but it remains relatively unknown to the public. It wasn't until Bao Vinh was used as the setting for the film "Eye of the Beholder" that this small town suddenly gained popularity and attracted many visitors. The Thua Thien Hue Department of Tourism, along with tourism businesses in the province, is currently planning suitable tours to introduce the beauty of Bao Vinh to a wider audience.
