Mu Cang Chai, like a "gem" in a remote location, attracts many people with its terraced rice fields and beautiful natural scenery.
CNBC describes Mu Cang Chai as nestled deep in the valleys formed by the Red River, notable for its series of colorful mountain villages surrounded by towering terraced rice fields. These terraced fields blanket the rugged mountains in an emerald green carpet, seemingly reaching for the heavens.
Centuries ago, the ancestors of the ethnic groups in the northern highlands of Vietnam created a system of terraced fields for farming and livelihood.
The terraced rice fields in Mu Cang Chai district are terraced fields nestled along the mountain slopes, one layer overlapping another, covering a total area of approximately 2,200 hectares. In 2007, 500 hectares of terraced rice fields in the three communes of La Pan Tan, Che Cu Nha, and De Xu Phinh were classified as a National Monument. Recently, Mu Cang Chai was also recognized by the Government as one of the seven Special National Monuments.

Nestled at the foot of the Hoang Lien Son mountain range at an altitude of over 1,000 meters above sea level, Mu Cang Chai offers visitors a wonderful experience, allowing them to take in the vast and vibrant landscape of the mountains. It is estimated that Mu Cang Chai welcomed 90,000 visitors in 2018, many times more than the 20,000 visitors in 2015. The local government is also promoting and preserving the unique cultural features of Mu Cang Chai, fostering ecotourism and adventure tourism while raising awareness about environmental protection.
