The 8th International Yoga Day with the theme "Yoga for Humanity" will take place in 8 provinces and cities of Vietnam, including Hanoi, Da Nang, Vinh Phuc, Thanh Hoa, Quang Ninh, Lao Cai, Thua Thien Hue and Quang Nam.
The Embassy of India in collaboration with the Vietnam Buddhist Sangha organized the opening event of the 8th International Yoga Day on May 29 at Tam Chuc Pagoda, Ha Nam province.

In Hanoi, the Embassy has planned to organize the 8th International Yoga Day on June 18 at King Ly Thai To Monument Square, Hoan Kiem District to create conditions for many Yoga enthusiasts to participate in this event.
Similarly, the Consulate General of India in Ho Chi Minh City will also organize the International Yoga Day event in 15 southern provinces including Ho Chi Minh City, Can Tho, Khanh Hoa, Binh Thuan, Ninh Thuan, Dak Nong, Dong Thap, Dak Lak, Phu Yen, Tien Giang, Soc Trang, Ba Ria - Vung Tau, Dong Nai, Binh Dinh, An Giang.
This year, India is celebrating its 75th anniversary of independence, known as "Azadi Ka Amrit Mahotsav". At the same time, India and Vietnam are also celebrating the 50th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations.
On the occasion of the 8th International Yoga Day, in a letter to Vietnamese Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh, Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi said that in a world beset by many challenges, more than 1 billion people have considered Yoga as a method to improve their physical, mental, spiritual and intellectual well-being.

Prime Minister Modi also thanked Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh for the wholehearted support of the Vietnamese Government in celebrating the International Yoga Day in Vietnam over the past 8 years. The Prime Minister hoped that Vietnam would continue to support the 8th International Yoga Day to make it a great success and believed that Yoga would contribute to creating a healthy and peaceful planet.
Vietnam was selected by the Government of India as one of the countries to be included in the Global Yoga Ring program, also known as the Guardian Ring program.
Accordingly, throughout June 21, India's national television station - Doordarshan will broadcast live from India the International Yoga Day celebrations around the world according to the time zone of the host country. To serve this program, the Indian Embassy has cooperated with Quang Ninh province to organize this big event in Ha Long Bay.

Yoga is a five-thousand-year-old tradition of ancient India that combines physical, mental and spiritual practices to achieve harmony of body and mind. Recognizing the benefits and popularity of Yoga, on December 11, 2014, the United Nations General Assembly declared June 21 as International Yoga Day.
The announcement came after Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi called for the adoption of June 21 as International Yoga Day in his address to the United Nations General Assembly on September 27, 2014.
