Hidden deep underground in Cam Pha, Quang Ninh is an extremely rare natural treasure: two salty hot mineral springs. "Treasure" of nature
Currently in Cam Pha there are 2 special salty hot mineral water mines, one of which is located in a high-class resort, Quang Hanh ward and the other is the Geological Hot Mineral Nursing Center of the Mining Geology Joint Stock Company, under the Vietnam National Coal - Mineral Industries Group (TKV), in Cam Thach ward.
These mineral water sources are all exploited very deep underground, with temperatures up to 55 degrees Celsius and are especially salty. They are ranked as one of the most famous Bromine mineral water locations in the world with Bromine content from 49-51mg/l and are very good for health.
Hot mineral water is not rare, but to find a source of water that is both hot and salty like in Cam Pha, Quang Ninh is truly special.
Of which, the hot, salty mineral water source of the Geological Hot Mineral Nursing Center, first discovered in 1963, is currently being exploited at borehole 28B at a depth of 342.5m to 402.5m.
It is known that at the end of 1963, Group 37 under the General Department of Mining and Geology, while drilling for underground water in Tam Hop commune (now Cam Thach ward and Cam Thuy ward, Cam Pha city), discovered a source of hot mineral water at borehole 17A at a depth of over 40m.
In 1973, the General Department of Mining and Geology assigned Group 37 to organize the development of a detailed exploration plan to more fully study the geological and hydrological conditions of the area, distribution rules, etc., to ensure the water exploitation volume of 800m³/day in the long term. Among the total number of exploration boreholes, there is construction borehole 28B with a depth of 402.5m meeting the conditions. This is an important foundation for experts to research and discover geological hot mineral water mines later.
This is one of the rare mineral water sources in the world, offering unique experiences for visitors.
In 1989, the General Department allowed Geological Federation 9 (now Mining Geology Joint Stock Company - TKV) to exploit hot water at borehole 28B for bathing to support medical treatment, mainly for workers in the Coal industry.

The mineral water source here is extremely valuable, rich in minerals such as Na+, Cl- ions, metasilicic acid, boric acid and Bromine with high concentrations. For a long time, Quang Hanh hot spring has been a familiar hot mineral bath destination for the people of Quang Ninh. Even many tourists from other localities on their way to visit Quang Ninh come here to soak and relax when they have the chance.
In 2023, the Center attracted more than 113,000 visitors and brought in revenue of more than 16 billion VND. Services at the Center are affordable with prices ranging from only 60,000-80,000 VND per person, while prices at Quang Hanh resort are up to nearly 1 million VND per person.
According to Mr. Ha Minh Tho - Director of Mining Geology Joint Stock Company - currently, the center's swimming pool can only accommodate about 50 people/time (about 90 minutes) and 40 people/time (about 90 minutes) in closed rooms, while the need for bathing for recuperation and treatment of workers, laborers in the Coal industry and people is very large.
Therefore, TKV is carrying out the project to upgrade and expand the Geological Hot Spring Nursing Center into a Geological Hot Spring Resort, with a total investment of about 200 billion VND. Of which, the bath alone will have the capacity to receive at least 200 guests/time, equivalent to about 1,100 guests/day.
