Deep beneath the soil of Cam Pha, Quang Ninh, lies an incredibly rare natural treasure: two hot, salty mineral springs. This is a unique geological phenomenon, not only rare in Vietnam but also globally. With temperatures reaching 55 degrees Celsius and a distinctive salinity, this water source offers not only wonderful relaxing experiences but also holds significant scientific and medicinal value.
Nature's "treasures"
Currently, Cam Pha has two of these special hot and salty mineral water springs. One is located within a high-end resort in Quang Hanh ward, and the other is the Geological Hot Spring Rehabilitation Center of the Mining Geology Joint Stock Company, a subsidiary of the Vietnam Coal and Mineral Industry Group (TKV), in Cam Thach ward.
These mineral water sources are extracted from deep underground, reaching temperatures of up to 55 degrees Celsius and are particularly salty. They are considered among the most famous brominated mineral water locations in the world, with bromine content ranging from 49-51 mg/l, and are very beneficial for health.
Hot springs are not uncommon, but finding a source of hot and salty water like in Cam Pha, Quang Ninh, is truly exceptional.
In particular, the hot, salty mineral water source of the Geological Hot Spring Rehabilitation Center, first discovered in 1963, is currently being exploited at borehole 28B at a depth of 342.5m to 402.5m.
It is known that, at the end of 1963, Team 37 of the General Department of Mines and Geology drilled for groundwater in Tam Hop commune (now Cam Thach and Cam Thuy wards, Cam Pha city), and discovered a hot mineral water source at borehole 17A at a depth of over 40m.
In 1973, the General Department of Mines and Geology assigned Team 37 to meticulously develop an exploration plan to more fully study the geological and hydrological conditions of the area, the distribution patterns, etc., in order to ensure a water extraction rate of 800 m³/day over the long term. Among the total number of exploratory boreholes, borehole 28B, with a depth of 402.5 m, met the requirements. This was a crucial foundation for experts to later research and discover the geological hot mineral water deposit.
This is one of the world's rare mineral water sources, offering unique experiences for visitors.
In 1989, the General Department authorized Geological Survey Team 9 (now Mining Geology Joint Stock Company - TKV) to exploit hot springs at borehole 28B for bathing purposes to aid in the treatment of illnesses, mainly for coal industry workers.
According to the Labor and Trade Union Magazine, Quang Hanh's hot mineral water possesses a unique feature that sets it apart. The mineral water here is extremely valuable, rich in minerals such as Na+ and Cl- ions, metasilicic acid, boric acid, and bromine in high concentrations. This mineral water not only benefits beauty but also supports health, reduces stress, promotes mental well-being, treats skin conditions, and restores muscle and joint function.

In addition, hot mineral water helps nourish the skin, reducing dryness and cracking, and providing a feeling of relaxation and refreshment.
With temperatures reaching up to 55 degrees Celsius and a distinctive salinity, this water source not only offers wonderful relaxing experiences but also holds significant scientific value.
For a long time, Quang Hanh hot spring has been a familiar hot spring bathing destination for the people of Quang Ninh. Even many tourists from other provinces visiting Quang Ninh come here to relax and soak whenever they have the chance.
In 2023, this center attracted over 113,000 visitors and generated revenue exceeding 16 billion VND. Services at the center are affordable, priced at only 60,000-80,000 VND per person, while prices at the Quang Hanh resort reach nearly 1 million VND per person.
According to Mr. Ha Minh Tho, Director of the Mining Geology Joint Stock Company, the center's swimming pool can currently only accommodate about 50 people per session (approximately 90 minutes) and 40 people per session (approximately 90 minutes) in enclosed rooms, while the demand for swimming for therapeutic and medical purposes among coal miners and the general public is very high.
Therefore, TKV is undertaking a project to upgrade and expand the Geological Hot Spring Rehabilitation Center into a Geological Hot Spring Resort, with a total investment of approximately 200 billion VND. Of this, the bathing pool alone will have the capacity to accommodate at least 200 guests per session, equivalent to about 1,100 guests per day.
