Accordingly, starting November 1, 2023, Japanese diplomatic missions in Hanoi and Ho Chi Minh City will begin issuing e-visas to Vietnamese citizens participating in package tours through designated travel companies (or other authorized agents). E-visas (JAPAN eVISA) issued during this period are valid for a single entry into Japan with a stay of no more than 90 days for tourism purposes. The issuance of traditional visas (stamped in passports) will continue as normal and remain valid at the Japanese diplomatic missions.

Regarding the verification process for the JAPAN eVISA, according to documents provided by the Japanese Embassy, after the JAPAN eVISA is approved, the applicant will receive a Visa Issuance Notice containing information such as full name, nationality, gender, and some details about the issued visa (number, issuing authority, date of issue, visa type, duration of stay in Japan, visa expiry date, number of entries) along with a QR code; After scanning the QR code and entering the required verification information, including the applicant's passport number and date of birth, the JAPAN eVISA will be displayed on the screen of the electronic device (smartphone, tablet) with a countdown timer (shown in the upper right corner of the screen) and details of the issued visa, including the applicant's personal information such as a portrait photo, full name, date of birth, nationality, gender, passport number, and other visa information.
According to a representative from the Japanese Embassy in Hanoi, applicants must present their passport and display the JAPAN eVISA issued electronically when going through immigration procedures in Japan. For elderly people, children, people with disabilities, or other special cases who have been issued a JAPAN eVISA but do not have an electronic device, they may display the issued visa via the device of a relative or accompanying person; for those participating in package tours, the JAPAN eVISA can be displayed via the electronic device of the tour leader.
