Japan issues e-visas to Vietnamese citizens from November 1

On October 20, 2023, the Consular Department - Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Vietnam issued a document announcing that Japan will issue electronic visas (JAPAN eVISA) to Vietnamese citizens participating in package tours.

Accordingly, from November 1, 2023, Japanese representative agencies in Hanoi and Ho Chi Minh City will begin issuing e-visas to Vietnamese citizens participating in package tours through designated travel agencies (or other authorized agents). E-visas (JAPAN eVISA) issued during this period are valid for single entry into Japan with a stay of no more than 90 days for tourism purposes. The issuance of traditional visas (pasted into passports) is still carried out normally by Japanese representative agencies and is valid for use.

Regarding the method of checking and authenticating JAPAN eVISA, according to documents provided by the Embassy of Japan, after being approved for JAPAN eVISA, the applicant will receive a visa issuance notice (Visa Issuance Notice) with information including full name, nationality, gender and some information about the issued visa (number, place of issue, date of issue, visa type, duration of stay in Japan, visa expiration date, number of entries) with a QR code; After scanning the QR code and entering the required authentication information including the applicant's passport number and date of birth, JAPAN eVISA will be displayed on the screen of the electronic device (smartphone, tablet) with a countdown timer (displayed in the upper right corner of the electronic device screen) and detailed information of the issued visa including the applicant's family information such as portrait photo, full name, date of birth, nationality, gender, passport number and other visa information.

According to the representative of the Embassy of Japan in Hanoi, applicants must present their passport and JAPAN eVISA issued on an electronic device when completing entry procedures to Japan. For the elderly, children, people with disabilities or other special cases who have been issued a JAPAN eVISA but do not have an electronic device, they can present the visa issued through the device of their relatives or accompanying people; guests participating in package tours, JAPAN eVISA can be presented through the electronic device of the tour leader.
