The 2025 Lunar New Year holiday is considered to be an opportunity for scammers to take advantage of people's need to buy plane tickets to return home, travel, etc. to appropriate property. Although this is not a new scam, the "psychological manipulation" tricks of the subjects are increasingly sophisticated, causing many victims to still fall into the trap.
Recently, the situation of fraud in buying Vietnam Airlines tickets has become more and more complicated. Fraudsters have constantly improved their tricks, creating fake websites so sophisticated that they are difficult to distinguish from the official website of the airline.
The situation of fraudulent airline ticket sales, especially tickets for the Lunar New Year 2025, is becoming increasingly complicated.
Specifically, they registered domain names that were similar to the airline's agents such as vietnamairslines.com, vietnamairlines.com, vietnamairlinesvn.com or vemaybayvietnam.com. With interfaces designed to be identical, even using the logo and images of Vietnam Airlines, these websites have deceived many passengers, causing unfortunate consequences.
With the eagerness to own a cheap airline ticket, many customers did not doubt when they received the booking code and the notice that they needed to pay urgently. They were caught up in the feeling of excitement, fearing that they would lose their ticket if they were late. However, after transferring the money, they received the humiliating truth that the subjects did not issue and cut off contact with the buyer. This booking code was just a trick to distract, because it had no real value and would be automatically canceled after a certain period of time. When customers discovered the truth, it was too late to get back the lost money.
In particular, some subjects send emails or text messages informing customers that they have “won” a prize or received a discount on airline tickets. When customers access the attached link and provide information, the scammers will steal credit card information or request payment.
In addition to impersonating social media accounts, many people also claim to be company employees with high discounts, and impersonate authorized dealers to offer attractive prices, causing many people to fall into traps.
Airlines recommend that passengers choose safe payment methods to ensure their rights.
Recently, Vietnam Airlines has sent a document requesting the authorities to handle websites that show signs of violations regarding: using logos, trademarks, images of Vietnam Airlines, copyright of website interface design, information disclosure; registering and using domain names that are identical/similar to the trademarks and trade names of Vietnam Airlines.
To avoid buying fake tickets or tickets with inflated prices during the upcoming Lunar New Year 2025 peak season, Vietnam Airlines recommends that customers buy tickets on the airline's website, mobile app, ticket offices and official agents.
The Information Security Department recommends that when people need to buy airline tickets, they should book directly through the airline's official website or call the hotline directly if they are not proficient in booking tickets online.
Before making any transaction, people need to carefully research and confirm the ticket code information and check its validity, and ask the airline staff to check the flight itinerary and passenger information. In particular, they should not transact through third parties or agents when they are not sure about the quality and reputation.
