The least visited countries in the world.

18/08/2022

Below are seven countries with low annual tourist numbers and inconvenient transportation. Most of these countries are located in remote areas with limited access to transportation.

The travel magazine Wanderlust recently compiled a list of the seven least visited destinations in the world. The list includes remote countries in the Pacific Islands, a tiny country in the heart of Europe, and a lesser-known African nation...

Guyana

Guyana là quốc gia Nam Mỹ ít du khách ghé đến nhất.

Guyana is the least visited country in South America.

Guyana receives approximately 315,000 tourists annually. Visitors can choose flights to Georgetown, the capital of Guyana, usually with a layover in Bridgetown (Barbados). Despite attracting hundreds of thousands of tourists each year, Guyana remains the least visited South American country to date. This destination is becoming increasingly popular with travel companies, and the number of visitors is steadily growing.

In Guyana, tourists can visit the capital Georgetown and admire the architecture that bears the strong imprint of colonial history. The influence of the Caribbean region has resulted in a diverse culture.

Outside the city, Guyana's natural beauty is equally captivating. It boasts Kaieteur Falls – the world's largest single-stream waterfall. Furthermore, Guyana's wildlife is diverse, ranging from giant river otters to 900 species of tropical birds.

Liechtenstein

Quốc gia châu Âu nằm giữa Áo và Thụy Sĩ.

This European country is located between Austria and Switzerland.

Liechtenstein welcomes 99,000 tourists annually. Liechtenstein does not have its own airport; visitors must fly to neighboring countries such as Switzerland and Austria and then travel there by bus. Situated between Austria and Switzerland, Liechtenstein receives more tourists annually than its resident population. This small European country is home to 38,000 people.

Despite its small size of only 160 square kilometers, Liechtenstein has much to explore. Visitors can find castles scattered across the mountains, trails connecting ancient towns and villages perfect for trekking or cycling... In addition, it also boasts many cultural attractions such as museums or contemporary art galleries in the capital, Veduz.

Dominica

Hòn đảo có thảm thực vật hoang sơ và nhiều hoạt động ngoài trời.

The island boasts pristine vegetation and numerous outdoor activities.

The country receives 75,000 visitors annually. Tourists must fly to a Caribbean island (usually Barbados), then take a connecting flight or ferry to Dominica. Dominica is known as the hidden gem of the Caribbean. Unlike the bustling neighboring islands in the region, Dominica receives less attention from tourists.

According to Wanderlust, the reason is that Dominica's landscape is predominantly volcanic, surrounded by pristine rainforest. This unspoiled nature means that tourism in Dominica has not been heavily developed. However, it is a paradise for those who dislike noisy, crowded destinations.

In Dominica, tourists can participate in many outdoor activities. Hiking in the jungle, snorkeling to admire tropical fish in the Champagne Reef, visiting the unusual boiling lakes and meeting the indigenous Kalinago people... are some of the suggested tourist activities on this Caribbean island.

Djibouti

Viên ngọc bị lãng quên ở châu Phi.

A forgotten gem in Africa.

Djibouti welcomes 53,000 visitors annually. The majority of tourists choose to fly to Djibouti from Ethiopia. Alternatively, travelers can choose flights from international airlines operating from Paris (France), Dubai (UAE), Doha (Qatar), and Istanbul (Turkey). Wanderlust magazine describes Djibouti as a forgotten gem in Africa. Located between Ethiopia, Eritrea, and Somalia in the Horn of Africa, the country boasts many beautiful landscapes.

One of the must-see attractions for visitors is Lac Assal, the lowest point in Africa and the third lowest in the world. In addition, visitors to Djibouti can admire volcanoes, hot springs, and numerous breathtaking canyons, as described by Wanderlust.

São Tomé and Príncipe

Một địa điểm nổi tiếng với những đồn điền cacao.

A place famous for its cocoa plantations.

A decade ago, São Tomé & Príncipe was an unknown name on the tourism map. However, this tiny island in the Gulf of Guinea has seen a rapid increase in tourist numbers over the past 10 years. In 2010, São Tomé & Príncipe received only 8,000 visitors. Now, that number has quadrupled. The small island is increasingly proving its strong appeal to tourists.

The island was discovered by the Portuguese in the 15th century. It was once known as a fertile land for growing cocoa. With its diverse landscapes, visitors can enjoy a nature-immersed holiday in the lush forests or a relaxing seaside getaway.

Tu Prime

Tuvalu là hòn đảo thiên đường hẻo lánh.

Tuvalu is a secluded paradise island.

Tuvalu is considered a remote area with a population of only about 12,000 people. Despite being hailed as a paradise island, it receives few tourists because international flights only operate once a week. Therefore, locals primarily use the airport area as a public park. Some even ride motorcycles on the runway.

Wanderlust considers visitors to this Pacific nation to be adventurous. There are many exciting wilderness activities available, such as cave diving, exploring evidence of human life dating back over 8,000 years, visiting the Philatelic Bureau on Fongafale, and viewing Tuvalu's vast postage stamp collection. For those wishing to learn about local culture, visitors can rent a motorbike with locals to explore uncharted territories.

Nauru

Quốc gia nhỏ nhất và ít khách du lịch đến nhất.

The smallest country and the one with the fewest tourists.

The smallest country in the Pacific Ocean is also the least visited country in the world (200 people/year). Nauru is a mere 21 square kilometers in size. Visitors can drive around the bean-shaped island in just 30 minutes. They can explore Nauru on foot in a single day. Currently, the island has over 10,000 residents. Besides its beautiful beaches, it also boasts a delicious culinary scene.

Tourism in Nauru is underdeveloped, so there aren't many activities to enjoy there. According to Wanderlust, the reason the island hasn't received much investment in tourism is its small size. However, it's an ideal destination for travelers who love unspoiled nature. Visitors to Nauru can explore Buada Lagoon and Anibare Bay. Additionally, the island has several World War II-era sites that appeal to tourists interested in learning about its culture and history.
