Quang Tri Airport is built in three communes of Gio Quang, Gio Hai and Gio Mai (Gio Linh district, Quang Tri) to meet the increasing demand for air transport, contributing to promoting political, economic and social development, while ensuring high mobility in defense, as well as in rescue, search and rescue and national defense and security of the Central region.
The project scale is a level 4C airport and a level II military airport, with a capacity to receive one million passengers and 3,100 tons of cargo per year.

The total estimated investment is 5,822.9 billion VND, implemented in two phases. Phase 1 will focus on building basic works meeting the standards of a level 4C airport and a level II military airport; with a capacity to receive 2.2 million passengers a year by 2046 and 5,000 tons of cargo by 2042 with an investment capital of nearly 2,914 billion VND.
Phase 2 will invest in the ground service infrastructure at the airport in 2029; expand the passenger terminal in 2047 to ensure the operation of up to 5 million passengers. During this phase, the first phase of the cargo terminal will be expanded in 2043 with a capacity of about 13,700 tons per year, and the second phase in 2059 with a capacity of about 25,500 tons per year. State agency offices, aviation and non-aviation service facilities will also be built during this time. The investment capital of phase 2 is more than 2,909 billion VND.
Quang Tri airport project will have a 50-year implementation period; and is expected to operate and collect fees to recover capital in 47 years and 4 months.
