Slow down at Zenith Yoga & Café

31/10/2014

Moments of slow living are perhaps becoming rare in the lives of Hanoians these days. Sometimes, I long for a moment free from the noise of traffic, the blaring of car horns, to sip a cup of coffee and read a good book in a quiet space.

Coincidentally, after hearing me complain about my stress, a friend who is a yoga teacher recommended Zenith Yoga & Café to me. It was a pleasant surprise…

On the surface, Zenith Yoga and Coffee doesn't look much different from other cafes, except for its somewhat wasteful spatial arrangement. It boasts spacious seating, an airy atmosphere, and an environmentally friendly ambiance. You'll feel incredibly comfortable leaning back on the cushions against the walls, stretching your legs on the mats, and enjoying a Chai latte with its rich cinnamon aroma – enough to warm even the most impatient person. Because of this, some foreign visitors disregard even the usual rigid formalities, lying on the mats to relax and read.

Zenith's tasty taster plate piques the curiosity of diners.

The gentle, soothing meditative music dispels everyday worries, and the delicate aroma of food from the kitchen at the bar awakens all the senses of diners. This is not just a café, but also a Western vegetarian restaurant. Looking at the menu, there are some truly unique and intriguing dish names, such as Zenith's tasty taster plate, Vietnam fusion salad, or Tofu Wrapped Mushroom bites… The restaurant also offers vegetarian pizzas like hummus pizza and pesto pizza. It's impossible to list all the nutritious and refreshing dishes at Zenith; I need to visit more to discover them all. The drinks also reflect the harmonious philosophy of the five elements: wood, water, fire, and earth. The menu features many drinks whose names alone evoke a sense of freshness and healthiness: green energy, zinger, Green Monster Smoothie… Notably, the restaurant uses very little sugar in its food and drinks; when sweetness is needed, honey is the preferred choice.

The cuisine here truly embodies the beauty of heaven and earth, the universe, and nature; of metal, wood, water, fire, and earth. Never before in my life has vegetarian food captivated a meat-eater like me, so it's easy to understand why most vegans and vegetarians visiting Hanoi seek out this place.

The center offers four types of yoga practice: Vinyasa Yoga, Hatha Yoga, Iyenga, and Asthanga, along with Pilates and meditation classes.

Having received a free yoga class pass from the restaurant staff, I decided to try it out to fully experience a "healthy" day, including body detoxification and mental tranquility. The center offers four types of yoga: Vinyasa Yoga, Hatha Yoga, Iyenga, and Asthanga, in addition to Pilates and meditation classes.

As I ascended the second-floor exercise room, I noticed a faint, rich aroma of incense and refreshing herbs wafting up the stairs. A small vase nestled on a shelf greeted me. The room was clean, and the gentle scent of lavender essential oil dispelled the worries of everyday life, preparing my body for a new journey. Exercise equipment of various shapes and colors was neatly arranged on racks. After nearly an hour of exercise, it was time for me to relax on the mat for the final relaxation session. Feeling warm after my workout, the soft music, the steady voice of the instructor, my muscles loosened, my body relaxed and merged with the universe and nature. At this moment, my mind was completely at rest, the tranquility making it easy to drift off to sleep.

After a day of vegetarianism and yoga practice, I felt it was truly a "detox" day for my body and a refreshing boost for my spirit, ready to welcome the day ahead.

Perhaps the owner of Zenith has achieved considerable success, as most foreign visitors, Hanoi residents, and tourists alike mention Zenith as a must-visit place in Hanoi and a familiar address for experienced yoga practitioners, vegans, and vegetarians.
