Every year, when December knocks on the door, the city transforms into a colorful and musical carnival scene, offering a unique experience to visitors from all over the world.
Strasbourg is known as the "Capital of Christmas"
Christmas – Strasbourg's unique identity
From the moment you step out of Strasbourg train station, you will immediately be immersed in the Christmas atmosphere. The sparkling lights cover the streets, and every shop and balcony is meticulously decorated, making you feel like you are entering a fairy tale. "Although all of Europe has been wearing 'festive clothes' since the end of November, Strasbourg brings a different feeling, because this is the place that turns Christmas into its own identity. Looking up, you can see the whole sky sparkling with decorative lights covering all the streets. It is this uniqueness that makes my excitement and eagerness constantly increase," said Bang Thanh, a tourist from Germany.

The whole city lit up in shimmering colors, bringing a festive atmosphere everywhere.
Strasbourg’s special highlight is the Teddy bears that appear everywhere. These adorable images not only highlight the creativity in decoration but also become a unique symbol, attracting thousands of check-ins from visitors every festival season.

Must-see destinations
Bang Thanh's journey to explore Strasbourg during Christmas was an emotional experience, where every place she visited left a deep impression.

The houses, windows and streets are meticulously decorated, creating a scene that looks like it came out of a comic book.
Her first stop was the Notre-Dame Cathedral on Rue Mercière. With its majestic Gothic architecture, the cathedral stands tall like a monument to time, where light from the brilliant stained glass windows creates a space that is both sacred and enchanting.
From the church, Bang Thanh continued her journey to Place Kléber, where a giant Christmas tree stood proudly amidst the festive atmosphere. “This was the first time I had seen such a large tree. The brilliant lights combined with the vibrant music made me feel excited and emotional,” she said.

Petite France, an ancient and poetic corner of Strasbourg, is also a destination that the female tourist suggested not to be missed. Walking through the traditional wooden houses located along the quiet canal, she could not help but admire the German-French cultural exchange subtly expressed through every architectural detail.

Places not to be missed
One of the places that Bang Thanh loves the most is the famous Rue du Maroquin, where adorable Teddy bears appear everywhere. From windows, railings to doors, these bears not only decorate the streets but also become a unique symbol of Strasbourg every festival season. “I was really 'heartbroken' by these bears. They are so adorable that I couldn't stop taking pictures from every angle,” Thanh said.
The Taste of Christmas and Cultural Exchange
Besides the beautiful scenery, Strasbourg's cuisine also leaves a deep impression on visitors. The bustling Christmas market stalls sell all kinds of specialties such as flammkuchen (Tarte flambée) - a thin cake with cheese and bacon, or a warm glass of Glühwein (vin chaud) to dispel the cold. "The smell of cheese at the market stalls can be overwhelming, but once you taste it, you will understand why this dish is so popular," Thanh added.
Besides the beautiful scenery, Strasbourg cuisine also leaves a deep impression on visitors.
Strasbourg is not only famous for its cuisine but also for its blend of German and French cultures. German-style half-timbered houses are located next to French-style architecture, creating a space that is both ancient and diverse. That is why every step on the street is like a journey through two unique cultures.
From the smallest details, everything exudes the festive spirit.

In addition, traditional Christmas music performances are held every night at different locations around the city, from local bands to choirs. Music resonates everywhere, mixed with the laughter and joy of visitors, creating a lively festive atmosphere.
Strasbourg is not only a destination for those who love the Christmas atmosphere, but also a place to explore the French-German cultural exchange, enjoy unique cuisine and immerse yourself in the warm festive atmosphere. A visit to Strasbourg at Christmas will surely leave unforgettable memories in the hearts of every visitor.
