The Glacier Express takes visitors on a wonderful winter experience in the Swiss Alps.

Operating since 1930, the Glacier Express is considered the “slowest express train in the world” with an average speed of 36 km/h and a journey time of 7 hours and 30 minutes between St. Moritz and Zermatt.

With a total track length of 275 km crossing 291 bridges and 91 tunnels, the train can reach an altitude of 2,033 m at the Oberalp Pass near Andermatt and has a section of up to 15 km of tunnels, separating Andermatt and Brig.

A complete Glacier train journey from St. Moritz to Zermatt is the only journey where you can admire the magnificent panorama of the Alps from East to West.

St. Moritz

St. Moritz is one of the top 7 ski destinations in Switzerland in 2016. It is one of the oldest and most famous winter sports resorts in the world, having hosted the Winter Olympics twice (1928 and 1948) and Olympic Ski-jumping. The 62 km Albula Line is considered a masterpiece of railway engineering and routing that has stood the test of time. The RhB company opened the spectacular railway line between Thusis and St. Moritz in 1903, after only five years of construction. The distinctive red Glacier train slowly climbs to a height of 1,000 m thanks to the Solis viaduct, the Landwasser Bridge and the tunnels between Bergün and Preda.

Rhine Gorge

The Rhine Gorge (Ruinauta) between Ilanz and Reichenau is a region of stunning natural beauty, known as the “Grand Canyon of Switzerland”. Here you can see rare birds, white rocks and strange geological formations.

Oberalp Pass

On the Glacier train's journey, Oberalp Pass is the highest point with an altitude of 2,033 m above sea level. Not far from Oberalp is Lake Lai da Tuma, the source of the poetic Rhine River. Oberalp is one of the most beautiful mountain passes in the world, but you can experience driving in the summer, but in the winter you have to go by train.
