Poster of the Exhibition "Nature in the Middle"
"Nature in the Middle" is a collection of works by 5 authors Luu Dong: Trinh Lien, Dang Huu, Duy Tung, Duy Hoa, Dang Hiep. 10 years ago, they - second and third year art students of the Architecture School, organized weekend drawing trips with the passion of practicing outdoor drawing skills, outside of schoolwork. Immersing in the vast space of nature is certainly a challenge for the senses of future artists, but that gradually gives them the courage to capture light, color, even the scent of plants, land, gardens; as well as awakening the best qualities and skills of each individual.

"Perhaps it is in nature, rich and lush, that a fundamental idea of Southeast Asian indigenous music exists. The role of humans in front of this tropical treasure is not to resist, but to coexist...".
The musician and ethnomusicologist José Maceda's observation of the connection between nature and music is also the motivation of the Dan Do group and Nguyen Duc Phuong, when they tie their artistic practice to the same indigenous cultural elements.

Dan Do, a group of 4 members who together research, develop and explore musical instruments made mainly from bamboo - as well as ways to play and combine these instruments with movement and performance elements. Some of the instruments they have experimented with during their 8 years of working together include:that guitarmade from bamboo, bright and clear tone, shaped like a fishing rod;jar drum: a ceramic jar often used to hold water, like a percussion instrument that creates a deep, resonant sound...

Nguyen Duc Phuong, the fifth member of the group, is the one who records the group's activities through paintings and sketches. The pigments are mixed from the soil; the techniques of lines, tones, and surfaces are always explored and created... - Nguyen Duc Phuong's works express the symbiotic relationship between music and nature - just like the spirit of Dan Do. Movement-stillness, people-trees-earth coexist on a non-specific space-time background. Somewhere, interwoven visual patterns remind of cultures and places without distinction, from the past and present, rhythmically and gracefully coming together.

The exhibition will look back at the members' artistic journey from 2012 to present through Nguyen Duc Phuong's visual works about the group, Dan Do's musical performances, musical instrument installations and displays, a documentary film and various notes.

Hopefully, through Travellive's suggestions, you will find a "world" just for yourself. Finally, I hope you forget all the above information, forget the tempting smartphone in your hand, because an exhibition is only truly "successful" and complete when the mind is in a free state. Free to observe and feel, free to forget the concepts and stereotyped limits of reason.
